And coppertopper, the reason Paul uses a British accent is because .... he's British. There is a whole nation of us who talk like that.

It's fair to say that expectations are lower for Warhammer than they were for Conan, but the way the European open beta release has been handled by GOA is failing to meet even those low expectations.

"Shambolic" would be too kind.

Once again, an MMO company is bamboozled by the internet.

How it's in game now is not as it was presented back in the day by a shouting arm waving P.B. The kill 10 rats quests still exist and you still don't get credit if you happen to kill 10 rats on the way to talking to that npc. It's merely a unique type of repeatable quest, like in WoW where you collect Arakoa Feathers for exp/loot/rep, only apparently in Warhammer you don't need to speak with the npc first.

I'm excited about the game because of it's features, despite P.B.'s questionable value to an mmo development team. Shades of Brad McQuaid.

Honestly the funniest thing to me about WAR is most of their presentations have been all Hype. It was very little content and all crowd riling, fist pumping, WAAAGH yelling fluff. While Conan was usually trying to show off something new. WAR will live or die on its PvP and its ability to make that PvP meaningful for people to invest in long term.

I am playing it and look forward to giving it a shot. I think the guys have done what they do best and taken proven concepts and re-iterated and focused on improving the game in a few key areas.

And copper, that system has been in its the kill collector npc. you kill whatever the mob is and can repeatedly go back and get experience for it afaik.

I hate to say "I told you so" but these aspects of meaningful PvP advancement, reward, and support were key aspects I championed while working on AoC and were never truly given the necessary priority.

The smartest move Mythic has made regarding the Warhammer hype machine is putting a cork in Paul Barnetts pie hole. His whole 'stand in front of camera with silly sunglasses and talk fast with British accent' schtick smacked more of self promotion then game promotion from the get-go, back when he was espousing the quest system that gave you quest credit for pve kills even before you had the related quest (which isn't fully implemented in game even as launch is 2 weeks away.

The main reason people stopped playing AoC? They didn't like it.. It didn't live up to their hype inside their heads. They wanted a game to recreate that feeling of newness, and since they had heard so much and seen so much, it just didn't feel exciting enough.

They might buy more copies of WAR, but I think plenty of people will drop off, just out of boredom. MMO have reached the point of being too much, all over the place. JUst like grunge rock, they have had their day.

The good part about it? NOW the real quality work gets done. Players will go back to being the nerdy of the nerds. I'm not even kidding! :)

I wish WAR well, I hope it sells a billion copies...but it will probably sell 1.2 mil and get down to 600 k, which is, by no means, a bad amount of players. But people will say it's a failure, anyway.
