Hey Joe Blow, if you think that was zeal, you aint seen nothing. That was about 4/10 on my zeal meter. I could really ramp it up if I wanted to reach born-again Christian levels of zeal :)

I am with you on that one brother, i've just recently done what you have
Coming back would take a ground breaking mmo to reel me back in or even a starwars based mmo would do so.

Good luck to ya

"Now, far be it for me to come at this with the zeal of a reformed smoker or born-again Christian (as both are as annoying as each other)," Woops if that was your intention, as that's is exactly what you did in this article.

I just did the same but had to cancel my Internet service to make it stick :p I have the iPhone to surf with and mostly will miss CoD4 multiplayer. And I too have experienced an increase in actual 'getting stuff done'. It's an eye opener, and am a little embarassed at all those hours I've burned in front of the PC. But tx is miserable during the summer so it's not like I would be outside chasing buttterflies or something. Still I'm excited to see where that free time will lead me. So congrats to you and will be interesting to see how long you last before 'the next big thing' comes along.

Ok...So can I have your stuff ? J/K : )

It seems to me you are going through a common bout of ''MMO burnout'' and simply need an extended break from the genre. Not a rare occurrence for massive gamers from what I understand.

That being said, if you really have actually rediscovered something that is better for you or more fulfilling, then I say ''good on ya'' and wish you the best. Walking away from something you have come to genuinely loath is definitely a good thing in the long run.

Well said! I discovered MMORPGs late on in life and have enjoyed many different games but I only play them casually until the "newness" of the game wears off and the grind really starts to bite. Once I know most of the mechanics of a game and have had some fun in the lower levels and instances and done some PVP, I move on.
Pretty soon, there won't be any "new" games to play and, in any case, I'm always looking out for a real RPG to come out, one where you don't just follow the linear path through quests and grinding to "the high levels". I find that, once you get to a certain level in a game, it becomes very repetitive - grind, do instances, PVP battles, get to higher levels, grind, do instances, PVP battles, ad nauseum.
My youngest son and I often discuss what type of MMORPG would truly capture our imagination and it definitely is more about role playing and community than questing and grinding. We, like you, hope that some game manufacturer will be bold enough to get off the gravy train of cookie-cutter, dumbed-down MMOs (they don't deserve the RPG suffix) and produce something different and give us something with a bit of non-linear depth and substance.
I'm not holding my breath. ;-)
