A lot of my guild members lately have been raving about this beta. While I haven't had a chance to play it myself, they all seem to love it so far.

Have to agree- this is a online RTS/TCG and will be downgraded on our site. Unless im mistaken, MMORTS was used in press releases for lack of a suitable genre ( or merely to get interest in yet another RTS).

MMO or not, it sounds fun. I used ot love playing Magic, until they outlawed half my cards... Just gave up, seeing as by the time I spent enough money to make a new deck, the same would happen again. Might be hard to balance the 'colors' and units though with that many of them.
...
On another note, Ive seen similar type games in Japanese arcades. You actually buy physically booster packs, and use them in the arcade game. With my limited understand of Japanese and heavily accented English, it sounded like you could play with just the cards outside of the arcade as well.

If BattleForge had a persistent war going on, then on some degree it could be considered "massively multiplayer" since everyone's battles contribute to the bigger picture in the war itself. But I'm not seeing any hints on their site that they have a persistent war happening.

In fact, I can't find any description on the site that EA or Phenomic is billing it as an MMORTS at all. So far the only mention of "MMO" whatsoever has been "unlike many MMOs, there is no subscription to play BattleForge" and "the loot system is need vs. greed which is used in many MMOs." Sounds more like they're using MMOs as a comparison or borrowing features, but not actually labeling their game as an MMO.

But I haven't been following it at all, I'm just going by the info on their website.
