Moving to Atlantica Online
Filed under: MMORPG Related, Opinion, Other
Having recently let my subscription to Warhammer Online expire, I am once again MMOless which is unacceptable. I’ve let some time pass and have taken a look around to see if anything catches my eye and something indeed has, Atlantica Online. Having played the more traditional MMORPGs as of late, Warhammer, LOTRO, Conan, I was looking for something different. I was actually interested in playing a MMOFPS, but didn’t really find anything that wasn’t either old or not really a MMO. Atlantica Online seems to be getting good reviews and is definetly nothing like Warhammer Online which is good cause I’m tired of that format.
I’m a huge fan of Finaly Fantasy Tactics and similar games and seeing how Atlantica Online is a turned based tactical fighting RPG where you can control up to 18 units I figured I’d give it a go. I just signed up and am downloading the game as I type this so I’ve yet to actually play the game, but I’m excited. Anyone have any tips for me?

I’ll have to check back for your thoughts. I haven’t been watching AO. I never played FF but have now done Wizard101 as my first turn-based game and LOVED IT. I would definitely be open to a more mature audience game that is similar.

I have been waiting for more people to blog about this game. I am REALLY enjoying it so far. The turn based thing is actually a lot of fun. Get into a guild right away, since you will have 1000 questions, and thats where guildies really help. Don’t be afraid to jump into the ‘Free League’ pvp, which comes up every 3 hrs or so. Its you and your mercs vs another player and his, and you will learn a lot about different tactics and mercenary abilities – plus even if you lose your match you win tokens, which sell for decent $$. Follow the quests since they teach you a lot about the gameplay itself, plus lead you logically from one dungeon area to the next.
Important things to note about mob drops:
-Commodity Boxes contain books that you ‘use’ to increase your skills, so open them right away
-Enchantment Boxes contain jewels that you can ‘use’ to up grade 2 similar pieces of armor/weap to a +1 level (2 +1’s combine to make a +2, ect.)
-Equipment boxes contain armor/weaps, which you can equip, but multiples of the same can be enchanted to become more powerful (see above)
Lots to this game – I hope you enjoy it!

Atlantica Online is a solid game. Good choice. It’s one of the top ‘free to play’ MMORPGs now, and it has the ‘pay to play’ quality to it. I Recommend you check out ‘Runes of Magic’ to if you’re looking for something that feels a bit more like WoW / War.

This game sucks badly, and so do all rpg’s whose quests consist of “kill this number of this, and go talk to this person”. This game disgraces the turn based games of old, and is no where near final fantasty, or ff tactics.

AO is a great game but after being online hacked 2x I have given up on it; 15 character massively complex/strong password did not help.
