Evony Review

I’m sure over the last week or so you have seen the Evony ads everywhere, I know I have, there’s probably one showing right now. Well after seeing them a million times or so I decided what the hell, I’m not playing any MMO right now, so I’ll go check it out.
Evony is a free 2 play browser based MMORTS game where you slowly build up your city and try to expand your territory. Signup to Evony here. The game starts you off with a empty town with only a Town Hall and it’s your job to build it up into a striving city, build an army and conquer additional lands. Everytime you do anything in the game, build a structure, research a new technology, march your army, a timer shows up showing how long it will take. So for instance creating a Barracks might take 5 mins, but every additional level will take longer and longer. Currently my barracks is at lev5 so the next upgrade for me will take 1 hr 29 mins. Evony Account.
City Building
Evony restricts construction to 1 building per city, so even if you have the resources you cannot construct or upgrade more than 1 building at a time. I’m actually a big fan of this system as it no longer depends on how long you play the game, instead it’s how often you play. Checking up on the progress a few times a day gets you much more than someone sitting there for 2 hrs straight. There is no building queue, so you need to manually select and build or upgrade each structure yourself.
Each territory you own is split into two parts, the town and the city. The town is made up of all residential, business and military building, such as the Town Hall, Market, Barracks, Academy, etc, and is protected by the castle walls. The city is outside the protective walls and contains your resource buildings, farms, lumber mills, quarrys and iron mines.
It basically works like any other RTS game you’ve ever played. You gather resources to construct or upgrade buildings, research technology, and to build an army.
City & Hero Management
Apart from just gathering resources and building/upgrading things, there is also city management. It doesn’t get too complicated and you can learn everything you need to know in about 5-10 mins. City Management deals with your tax rate, making sure your population remains loyal and assigning a mayor to your city.
Once you have created an Inn, you can hire a Hero unit who can either lead your army or become a Mayor. Each Hero unit has 3 stats, politcs, attack and intelligence. A hero with higher politcs means your cities resource production will be higher where as a higher attack means your army will have a higher attack rating. Intelligence shortens the time it takes to research a new technology. So you can see that some hero’s are better suited as a Mayor than as a General.
Once you have a Hero and army, they will start to eat up resources as well. A hero must be paid a monthly fee and an army will need to eat so you’ll start losing food resources. If you’re army is outside attacking you will lose food twice as fast, so you always want to make sure to return your troops as fast as possible once they have completed their mission.
As your city grows you will also gain Prestige points which is basically a rating of how well your cities are compared to other players. You also have a Rank and Title, the higher the rank and title the more cities you can control.
Combat
Once you have created an army you’re ready to attack, however it’s important to scout the area first to find out the strenght of your opponent. Once you have scouted the area, you’ll find out exactly how many and what type of troops are located there. If you feel confident, you can then attack.
In the below image, I am attacking a open field to receive a bonus of 7% to my stone production for as long as I hold that field.
As fun as attacking people and NPCs is, the combat system is completely f*cked up and makes zero scense to the point that it almost ruins the entire game. Allow me to explain.
Yesterday I attacked the same location twice because I was farming for reward medals. Medals are used to reward your hero or for promotion quests, which I’ll get into more later. Here is the defending armys strenght on both attacks.
Enemy Army
142 Warriors (very weak unit)
32 Archers
48 Pikemen
On my first attack I had:
Attack 1
115 archers
I won the fight, but lost 65 archers.
Attack 2
25 Swordmen
20 Pikemen
115 Archers
The results? I lost not only 65 archers, but all my swordmen and pikemen. WTF?! That makes no sense, how could a smaller army of only archers do better? After a few more attacks I realized that melee units are 100% useless, they will only increase your casualties and waste your resources so I have been building archer only armies since.
I’ve also read on the Evony forums that there are major balance issues when attacking castle walls. As far as I’m concerned the combat system is sh*t and needs to be completly redone.
Special Items & Medals
Evony use the microtransaction business model to make money, so there are many items you can buy, for real money, that will help you along in the game. Items can range from things that subtract from build times, ranging from 15 min to 8 hrs to 30% reduction in build times. Other items will boost production or combat effectiveness for a certain amount of time. There are also medals that you gain from conquering land, these medals can be used to either boost your hero stats or to promote yourself via Promotion Quests.
Quests
There are quests in Evony, however they are progress only quests. For example, your Town Hall reaches lev 5 or you obtained 10,000 prestige points. I like to think of them as achievments instead of quests.
Conclusion
After a few days of playing I can say I’m enjoying this game a lot more than I thought I was going to. Working infront of a computer all day, it gives me something enjoyable to do and doesn’t really take much time to play. I have a dual monitor setup so I have Evony on one screen and can see when the timers run out so I can pick what I’m going to do next. This is not a time-sink type of game, it’s sort of like checking your e-mail or Facebook a few times a day, 2-3 mins and you’re good to go. But they do have to fix the combat system, it’s retarded and can destroy the game if it’s not fixed in a resonable amount of time.

Great review, thanks. Does the game have RMT or anything to compensate for it being F2P?
June 11th, 2009 at 12:41 pm
I’ve been curious about the game, seeing so many ads for it all over the place.
Is the game interface/play screen in JavaScript? Flash or Java?
June 11th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Is it vs other players or vs the computer?
June 11th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
No theres no real market trading, which kinda sucks.
The play screen is in flash
Its has both PvP and PvE. Basically when you start out you get 7 days of protection after that any other player can attack you, so its more PvP than PvE.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
I guess you lost your melee fighters because of wall defense such as traps which kill almost all of them instantly. whereas archers are easily able to get their arrows through…
I’m not too sure..its just a theory….
June 12th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Cool review.
I’ve seen that ad all over the place and was wondering WTF it was.
It reminds me of the one site Nation States, where you make your government and such, and then dictate. But that’s all text based.
I do like how its casual, with micro play time.
Sucks that the combat seems like such crap.

I’ve been playing Evony for about 2-3 weeks now, and there are some severe problems with their servers. Getting kicked off the server with a connection error is common, time out errors on login are routine, and slow server response is the status quo.
Customer service and the developers have said nothing to the community as to why servers are performing so badly ( I assume it is the rapid growth they are experiencing ). The forum mods seem unable to give proper community support, and certainly wield the ban-hammer with ease.
The ToS and EULA are pretty nasty as well, they strip just about any rights from the player. No refunds, cancellation without warning or reason. It’s a pretty icky shrink wrap EULA as well, you agree to it fully by making an account.

I have had some problems understanding parts of the game. There was a bonus package that I didn’t know how to work until about my fourth day. There are guide books that I still have no idea how to read.
One of the things I wonder about is all the computer time, programming changes, and advertising — what is the business side that pays the bills. Is it some college psychology or programming course project that keeps it going?
June 15th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
I get the impression that the Evony creators make money because of the impatience of the players. You can purchase game tokens, which can then be used to speed up various builds etc. In theory, it suggests that someone with money could overcome the clock, and emerge from the 7 day “protection” period seriously amped, gunned up, and ready to rumble with alll the goodies available.
The imbalanced battle system doesn’t sound promising.
And I suspect some confusion of players results from some of the worst English I have ever encountered on a web site!
June 20th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Think about it. I am an archer, while you have a sword or pike. I can kill you long before you get anywhere close to me. You’ll never even see my face.
Archers were the most expensive combatants a King had at his disposal because of this ability. They trained constantly, while infantry were pretty much just conscripts who were gathered up when needed.
June 23rd, 2009 at 4:44 am
Am currently in top 300 of server 1 of evony. I have played for a month. The game has a very severe financial model, meaning that it plays on your impatience to make you spend money to speed things up, so people who spend lots become much more powerful than “free” players. The game is well designed to a point – it was having terrible growth issues a few weeks ago, but new servers and bug fixes have improved it. Rules are adapted to try and make the game more fair. On the whole the game appears like a static version of AOE2 but really it is a game of accumulation and there are many strategies to get ahead. I know of people who were so impatient they spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on the game.
My advice would be to play on one of the more recently launched servers, and to enter the game with a specific spending budget (maybe its zero) so you do not go overboard, as the psychological impetus is very strong and it uses paypal so payment is very easy. Perhaps too easy.

Great Evony review. In answer to the other questions. Range in evony is definitely important. If you’ve got enough range on your archers or ballista then you can outrange the enemy and hit them first. This is why archery technology is very important. If your archery is even 1 level above your enemies then your archers get first hit
June 24th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Thanks for finally filling me in on what this game is all about. These Evony ads pop up on every gaming site on the web.
June 24th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
who’s the background actress that shown at the cover of this game..????
June 26th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I have played for almost 2 weeks and I still haven’t found out the importance of swordsmen and cavalry, etc. Archers are given way too much power. IMO they should have several different types of archers or something instead of just being able to increase your archery level.
June 28th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
thunderror
but i fail to see the point in making melee units that consume resources if they are just going to die anyway. it just seems very poorly thought out, which isnt too uncommon in this recent uproar of mmo games they keep advertising. i think ill pass. thanks for the review/ heads up.
June 29th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
I don’t care about the game, but what knockers on that girl.
June 30th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Why your ccombat situation was uneffective is because archers can shoot oncoming enemy’s before they get there…if you have soo many that you can get to them before they kill all of your army then that’s progress….archers vs archers mainly matter on what the level of the technology archery (each research increases range by 5%) is highest
it’s not the combat it’s your enemy…archers are effective aginst small numbers
June 30th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
So is the combat real time? Can you control your army? Or is it like any PHP games where you issue orders, and the battles are resolved automatically?
If it’s like PHP games, then I suppose combat would be resolved based on “stacks”. That’s always a weird system for me, and I never liked it.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Has anybody else noticed that the English in the game is very very poor?
That, combined with the clear incentive to buy your way through the game makes me think that this game is clearly an Indian/Chinese knock-off just looking to garner the bucks.
How do you even know that your opponents are real people and not just robot-npcs?
June 30th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
You don’t control the army, everything is resolved behind the scening in the coding.
July 1st, 2009 at 1:45 am
some of u (johann for example) have the stupidest ideas ive ever heard– u know that your opponents are real cause some of them send u angry @$#%ing messages after you attack them– or they are your friends in real life- this games combat system is quite fair- if you are going to resort to infantry then u will need to hav large numbers of them– it only makes sense that it takes a large amount of poorly trained troops(eg. warriors) to defeat a small amount of well trained troops(eg. archers)….. ive got a great idea…. play the game instead of trying to act smart about somthing you have absolutely no information on
July 1st, 2009 at 1:48 am
oh yeah cavalry are extremely useful for raids— and in case u havent noticed they move really fast so u dont have to wait for them– swordsman are actually fairly useful against archers due to their armor
July 2nd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
It’s a great game and you probably lost all people because of traps if you scout a city but don’t pay attention to the traps you can lose massive amount troops you also mentioned nothing about honor which gain by attacking and conquering city. But you got everything else right.
July 5th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Its interesting to see both sides of the Evony gaming debate. Some loving the new graphics, good gameplay and step up from the old basic ‘web based free games’ – as opposed to the others saying that UMGE / Wowmine have developed a ‘cash grab’ style game that forces the serious gamer to purchase coins (a la WoW) type setup.
My view, Evony has really set a new standard for free online games (and while delays in attacks can be frustrating) at a base level – things are pretty good and most younger MMORPG gamers should enjoy things.
July 7th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
When attacking, the battle is divided into ’rounds’ where the troops with the longest range kill the infantry. It’s really quite simple once you research it. Look it up on the Evony wiki, it’s very helpful.
July 8th, 2009 at 11:09 am
yea archers are cheap and good but catapults will walk right over them im in the top ten in server 4
July 9th, 2009 at 1:09 am
I see what this game is now…but why do the ads have to look so…INAPPROPRIATE!?
I might play this game…still considering.
July 9th, 2009 at 11:15 am
Yep Evony ads are everywhere, there’s one where the lady looks like she’s having an orgasm or something. I plan to check it out sooner or later………..maybe later..
July 10th, 2009 at 3:00 am
sorry jon, but the fact is that i dont like the indians or the chinese and i will never play any games made by them. they suck our money into their country and make us poorer and them richer.
July 10th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
what happens if you dont play for a week or 2
July 10th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
Thanks for the comments; I for one don’t wish to play a game (or anything else) that doesn’t take care with language.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
Too complicated for this type of game, and the interface is completely unintuitive.
Play Travian or Tribalwars if you want a similar but simpler and less dumbed down games
And wtf is there a picture of your character’s face? WHO CARES?
July 10th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Mike, thanks for posting your review. Your content is good. However, the grammar and spelling systems are sh*t and need to be completely redone.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:40 am
I tried to stick it out for a few weeks, in my opinion it’s a really crummy game, and it amazes me that people will actually play and enjoy something like this.
Firstly, it’s a blatant rip-off of Tribal Wars. I’m not that much of a fan of TB either but at least it’s reasonably simple and straightforward. Evony has tried to improve on TB by adding a host of bells and whistles, for example instead of just having a single farm to upgrade, you have potentially dozens of fields to turn into farms, but how does this improve gameplay? The answer is, it doesn’t. It’s just more work for the player. Likewise, instead of one barracks you can build a number of them in any city, but again, this is just more work. I finally just got tired of having to endlessly queue up troop and infra builds, it became a bore. And then as others have observed the combat system is atrocious, so you can spend weeks building up your troops and then lose everything in one attack or defence.
Two additional ways they have tried to “improve” upon TB is (a) to not allow a player’s last city to be conquered, and (b) to allow players to teleport their cities away from an impending attack. I guess they figured this would keep people playing longer as they could keep all their infrastructure and not have to start again as in TB, but the end result is that it robs the attacker of the satisfaction of defeating an opponent.
The other problem is the horrendous expense of the game if you are foolish enough to waste money on it. You get practically nothing for your money. A lousy 15-minute building speedup will cost you 50c, in a game where it takes literally weeks to build up your infrastructure, it’s not hard to imagine how much money you could throw away. And indeed, many people have impulsively thrown away hundreds of dollars in just a few days of gameplay. TB by contrast just charges a flat fee of $5 a month for some modest enhancements to the user interface – a much more ethical method of charging customers.
July 11th, 2009 at 3:46 am
I tried this game for the first time. Annoying – spent most of my time waiting around and chatting with idiots. After a while I couldn’t even chat as that cost $$. Too do anything in a timely manner you need to pay $$.
July 11th, 2009 at 10:32 am
How do these guyz make money if it’s free ? And the massive spending they put on advertising this game on every website ?????
July 11th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
I’m curious about where all the hot uber-cleaveged women come into this. Cuz judging by the ads they seem to be the main selling point of this game.
July 12th, 2009 at 4:06 am
Looks like Evony is just a money grabbing scam. Chinese gold farmers go first party. I have gathered the information together here: http://www.bruceongames.com/2009/07/10/dont-play-evony/
July 12th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
What the hell does this girl have to do with anything?!
July 13th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
All I can say is that I am really pleased with the cleavage in the adds. If they would add that to the cities and other in game activities, I would think about investing my time.
July 13th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Ugh..well, sure its a DECENT game..but also a rip off of some games, too…I enjoyed it for a bit, but what really annoys me are the ads, thats pretty much the only reason the game has a ton of players, mostly little kids who notice the ads and think its some sort of porn game, “Play secretly”? Seriously..Whenever I go to World chat in the game, I see people saying things like WhERe ArE THE GIRLS IN TGAME!?!?! And other stupid things like that, so basically, over 50% of the people playing the game are perverted little kids.

Actually johann, our politicians and major companies jump at the chance to pour money into indian and asian nations. Cheaper labor, fewer labor laws, plus government tax incentives for outsourcing… If you MUST blame anyone it should be your own country they are the ones responsible.

That game really freakin sucks after all the stupid adds ive seen i actually go to there site to findout i couldnt do any piece of darn crud that horse pitute of a game. no matter what that games has got crash. The thought of playing to earn money so you chat to others. in that worl chatting cost wat piece of F******* sh** is that. You and All of uss can tear this game down or build it better. i wasted my email address on that stupid game. Oh yea and i dare them to send ads to my email. ohhhhhh yeah, and they’ll pay for it.
July 15th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Yeah, those women sure get you interested, and I’m not into games. Sex sells. So I ask myself, if it’s “free forever” then how do they make money? Hmmmm. I almost tried it but then my suspicious side took over.
No way.
July 16th, 2009 at 1:02 am
Johann,
If that’s what you think about India and China then you have no idea what you’re talking about and are wholly unqualified to speak on the subject.
It’s hard to know where to begin with such an ignorant and xenophobic statement but I recommend taking a basic economics class. The Chinese and Indians are invaluable trading partners that provide, as Putin mentioned, some very essential resources for the health of the US economy. What do you think would happen if China was not there to prop up the US dollar by buying US treasury notes and holding so much US currency in reserve?
Please try and educate yourself and refrain from such idiotic racist rants on subjects you know nothing of.
July 16th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
I have played this game now for three weeks. In that time the servers have gone down twice. The first time, while allegedly no one could get on, one of my cities was raided 39 times. This not only destroyed my stocks but also the loyalty reduced to alarming levels to the point I almost lost this particular city. Basically I believe I was cheated.
This was raised with the support, but as most players say support never replies, I wasnt surprised when I didnt get a response and still havent.
Today all servers have gone down again. Most of the day people have been in the forum complaining and Evony has said absolutely nothing. No apology. No notice when things will be back up.
On Evony forum there has been quite a bit of talk about people cheating. I do not know one way or the other, but some players do seem to have inordinately large, unachievable and unsustainable armies. Imagine a newby having 2k of archers defending their city, to be attacked by 100k!!!!!
In some ways it is an addictive game, but with it built on a cr*ppy infrastructure/servers, with zero customer support and lopsided gameplay, there must be better free to play games out there.
Evony 2/10
July 16th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
look the infantry units are great when attacking enemy citys becuase they can carry much more resources back than cav and Archers, they are also important so u can send workers to pillage the city u are attacking
been on three weeks and im doin amazing still haveny found a challenge everything is level eight and i have spent no money!!!! patience and strategy if ur worried about build time research Construction it works really good later all!!!!!!!!!!

JOHANN, you are IGNORANT like all racists . yeah, blame smart people for you being stupid . chinese and indians are SMART that is why the world is courting them. its not just cheap labor. cheap labor can be had in many countries .
why don’t you go back to school and learn Math, then you too may get a decebt job. oh that’s right I forgot: you go to school to go on field trips and other useless nonsense while thirld world countries schools actually TEACH .

i wish the game actually had all those sexy ladies like in the ads… love their cleavage so much…
July 18th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
The game had plenty of potential, but its still really a beta or was a couple of weeks ago, with constant nerfs which can completely invalidate strategies that have taken a lot of investment. Very frustrating when it moves the goalposts.
The game also becomes somewhat stale at high ranks with maxed cities.
+ There are several “issues” to be aware of, which can lead to losses outside your control.
Customer service is also “intermittent” at best.
Great marketing, ambitious product with potential but doesn’t live up to they hype – yet.
I’d recommend waiting until things stabilise.
July 18th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
As to Jumpfer’s comments… 100k armies are easily achieved if you know what you’re doing…
you don’t produce the food for them, you steal it!
as to LordPolo – try workers and transports for carrying the loot back… they’re much better at it than warriors… which are often termed “meat shields” used to absorb damage and protect more effective units.
………………………………..
As per several comments above, the RL cost of purchasing items is ridiculously high.
I experienced a lot of instability, lags and browser crashes.
(and yep in many ways, its a tribal wars / travain clone [I guess Civ provided some inspiration as well given the original name “Civony”)
July 19th, 2009 at 10:00 am
I have a feeling that some of the comments are being left by the promoters of this game. Evony is a scam and they make a big deal by telling you that it is “free forever”. Well guess what? It is not free. They suck you in and after four days or so you realize that you need to spend money (real money) to get anywhere in the game. Avoid this game.
July 19th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
The game is fun but it does require patience and the ability to read and follow simple instructions. (regardless of improper grammar)
Most give up immediately because they don’t read and follow the quests.
It is more of a Sims building game with war thrown in for fun. The paying players do have a distinct advantage over the non-paying, but if your playing for free and you find an alliance you connect with it can be extremely entertainling.

Very complex topic, of course, but:
Those who think Johann is a racist – well, you obviously never dealt with Chinese business people – *they* are racist, ignorant and simply arrogant. Chinese and Indians behave as if they ruled the world, all I ever see from them is open or partly hidden *contempt* for the West – sorry, but I agree with Johann, plus there is nothing wrong with supporting your own countries industry.
July 21st, 2009 at 10:36 am
Its like…Monopoly…with swords and bows. Tough to build up gold though. The game is free…but if you are impatient, I can see where it could cost.
I’ve not spent a cent yet. But I’m thinking about it, LOLOL.

On the new servers they brought the medal drop rate down close to 0%. It prevent promotion and basically locks you into a position where you can’t expand unless you pay $$. It is not really a question of patience when the drop rate means you can do hundreds of valley battles with zero reward.
July 22nd, 2009 at 3:11 pm
I disagree Wicket. I’ve been playing it for 9 days now and have rapidly moved up to the rank of Knight / Captain. And have yet to pay a cent.
Its harder, no doubt…but certainly doable.

haha, detailed review. nice job, i enjoyed reading it.

Evony is a good game, but stay away from server 5, very bad lag and the tech support doesn’t seem to care…this is because they’re running other games from this server.
If you have an issue, don’t expect and answer other than a canned responce… they promise it will be addressed in two days…well not even two weeks. Good game, extremely bad service/tech support. Game is hosted in Dallas Texas, by Softlayer.com

“Archers were the most expensive combatants a King had at his disposal because of this ability. They trained constantly, while infantry were pretty much just conscripts who were gathered up when needed.”
That would be why the average english noble used to have a retinue of longbowmen with a few sword/spearmen in the middle ages right dude? English armies were predominately bowmen for one simple reason, they were cheap, every english country serf had a bow and knew how to use it to hunt/ feed his family…french armies had heavily armoured knights who were expensive and thusforth their armies were smaller and far more expensive to maintain. You need to learn more about medievil history…
Anyway im off topic, good review it sounds intriguing elabeit a little imbalanced on the comabt side of things and definitely even more so when it comes to a free game having purchasable items that give people massive advanages. If people who play free games are paying for things they need to go and play WoW or AoC etc etc…

People should just play Ultima Online

I’ve been playing this game for over 2 weeks now, and have come to learn that the game is a scam. They claim that it is free forever but the major flaw in the game is that you can’t advance past the rank of Knight, Captain on the new servers. The lowered the drop rate of (medals) which are items you need to gain promotion and be allowed to conquer more lands to almost 0. You get a medal about 1 in every 100 attacks on a valley and a attack takes anywhere from 4 -8 mins so just imagine you need 15 medals to advance you would have to spend around 150 hrs of constant game play to achieve this. Even if you are sending out 10 attacks at a time it still takes more time then i’m willing to invest for mediocre Gameplay. Try playing perfect world if your looking for a fun strategy mmo type game which does not require you to buy in game coins at all.

This evony game sounds okay, i mean it comes from a browser and doesn’t look nearly as crappy as runescape. however, the combat system does sound fucked up so im not sure about it. Another thing is the ads have hot chicks on them. you see like massive boobs and think you get to do something with them but later figure out that theres nothing to do with em….i mean what the hell.

First off, excellent review.
Now I have been an Evony player for close to a month on Server 9 and recently started up on World 9 as well and I think I may be able to clear a few things up.
yes server crashes happen, but for me they have been extrememly rare (I have had it happen all of 2 times) I recommend starting on the later servers as they crash significatly less according to the forums (World 9 has never crashed on me) also on that topic, the servers do shutdown for 15-30 minutes a night for “maintenence” this is not a crash.
talking costs money? not when you join an alliance, world chat costs, alliance chat and mail is free.
medals are EASY to get, so long as you know HOW, for instance, the drop rate for “rose medals’ can be roughly 33% if you simply attack like this: level 1 valley – 50 archers, level 2 valley – 100 archers, level 3 valley – 200 archers.
I am a General/Baronet and I only started medal hunting about 3 days ago, only built a military AT ALL 2 days ago.
combat system again makes sense if you look up the wiki or ask around an experienced alliance, things may look unbalnced but when you understand the hows and whys…well its much less flawed.
Oh I should also mention I have not spent a dime on this game and I always play games at a snails pace (takes me around 48 hours to beat a 3-player game of sins of a solar empire) a friend of mine started same day as me, she has more then 10x what I do, and she hasnt spent a thing on the game either.
all in all I give it 8/10
Tips: JOIN AN ALLIANCE!!! and read up on things that you feel are taking to long, generally there is a (free) way to speed them up.
anyone that wants to try this game and feels they would like some help, just mail me if your on server 9 or world 9, I will try to find you answers

Thanks for the games review Mike, it is a fair assessment for a person who may not know too much about its history, but it is always good to obtain detailed facts too, especially if there is a suggestion of illegal activity within the product concerned.
It has been alleged that this game company does deal in some very shady business as can be evidenced in the following news article from a reputable UK newspaper http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2009/jul/15/games-evony-spam-internet.
I tend to think that as Evony is now facing a $750,000 lawsuit from Mircosoft over internet click fraud it suggests that all users should be wary about this company and its products. The post from one established consultant listed within the article cited shows how Evony is misusing the details of those who register their phone details with iEvony. When the Microsoft lawsuit bites, the innocent users may face more than what they bargained for.
As this company originates from selling gold to World of Warcraft users, this lawsuit could embarrass a number of multinational companies like Microsoft, Google and Blizzard. Those that comment favourably on this game could be mistaken as being party to supporting the internet click fraud that is allegedly taking place. This explains as to why there are so many adverts about the game in existence.
It is not really a question about Evony being a Chinese concern, it is more about this company potentially participating in illegal activity. Naturally such accusations do not place the legitimate and growing Chinese MMOG industry in a good light.
As with all things, any user of Evony needs to be aware of these issues. I hope this may help the MMOG gamers here to come to their own conclusions as to whether or not Evony is safe to play.
Safe gaming,
Andrew

I think Evony is a pretty good game, needing only a few “checkups” a day,but after the ads started with the “CONQUER THE LAND SAVE YOUR LOVER” type of stuff, it makes it look like a game for dating or something.
I mean srsly… >.< T_T
anyone know what i mean?
August 1st, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Why all the boobs and cleavage in the ads when it has nothing to do with the game?
August 1st, 2009 at 7:03 pm
ive spent a total of 1 hr a day on evony for the past 2 weeks, and i am in the top 1500 players on server 25
i have spent $0 in getting to that position
the awesome looking adds are indeed bull$hit… -_-
the battle system is fine if u take the time to learn it
server stability is a crap shoot, that much is true. some days its rock solid, some days it isnt
the drop rate for the medals one needs to get better ranks is lousy. i believe thats because EVONY wants the players with less commitment to cave in and buy the medals, but they arent 100% necessary. i didnt buy any and im doing fine on the game.
yes the general chat sucks, but when u join an alliance (and you will) alliance chat is where u will spend all your time

I’ve been playing this game for a few days, and I’m bored already! This game is “Settlers” with a new look, that’s all! It takes too long to build stuff, and to build stuff faster they ask for $, kinda takes the “free forever” jingle out of the title! I played Settlers, and found it more enjoyable, than the Evony inspired one! Taking hrs to build a building, or upgrading it, is not my cup of tea and not worth my time! I was hooked in by the bosomy babe, but she is nowhere to be found! Damn shame too!
August 6th, 2009 at 11:05 am
So…what about the boobs in the ad? Do ya get some cleavage?
August 7th, 2009 at 6:04 am
How come Evony has such weird pictures as ads? My mom and i think it is so sick!!!
August 9th, 2009 at 11:11 am
OMG!!!! what a waste… their ads are all over. I tried for 20 min and gee I wanted to go see grasss grow I was so bored…
Turn it off… its spam

ive been playing on server 3 for about a month and i havn’t spent a penny.
You don’t need to pay money to get a better title at all im already a marquis and i find medals easy to get.

August 17th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I think the game is interesting. But I stopped after a couple weeks because there is no level cap to who you can attack, or who can attack you. It’s simply a chest beater game. If you have the patience to be forced to rebuild gold and resources again and again, every time some person with insane game playing time feels like raping you for your own, then go for it. But I found it eventually time wasted. I moved twice, and it happened, I even PAID for the item to move again (they only give you a couple free) and another little chest pounder, too scared of people his own level, or even half his level, to attack and plunder them. Some may say I started it, or instigated it, but I never spoke to these people, never attacked them or their alliance mates, never even heard of them til I was scouted, attacked, and wiped clean. With a bit more control, it could be an enjoyable game. Make it so people with 500,000 perstige can only attack people with 400,000 prestige or more. But I don’t have the patience to come home after work, and log on to see everything I worked hard for gone in one hit from some guy with a huge army. And I can’t even retaliate or consider retaliation because it would take forever to recover, much less catch up to his level, when he’s raping me for everything I have ever day. I’m sure you can luck out and find yourself in a good area where this doesn’t happen. But it happens ALOT, and I know tons of people who have left for the same reason.

what is the name of the brunette girl who’s wearing the white dress and the necklace? BEAUTIFUL.
August 18th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
If anyone is thinking about trying the game Evony out, don’t bother. From the time I got there, till the time I left, it was non-stop vulgarities and racial slurs from other so called players. I am talking a steady stream, not just one here or there.
Even several dozen or so player names had every dirty word in the book.
I rate that game 100% sad.

What should I say about Evony: Age I?
Evony (www.evony.com) is a flash style game that offered a unique experience to join in on an eternal real world Risk Game taking place in a very expanded countryside.
Honestly, like any game this has its drawbacks and positive notes. Luckily, the positive outweighs the negative to a strong extreme. We will begin with the pluses.
Evony gives you 7 days from jump to learn the system and get into the game. From that time you recieve a few packages to help you settle into the situation of Real Time Strategy Warfare and during that time you cannot be touched and are free to build as you wish.
The alliance system allows members to communicate and group up to wage war against the other alliances in real time combat. This means that if you have to march 20 miles to your opponent, its going to take your army an hour or so to do it. Much like real life. Also the growth aspect you can manage within your alliance makes it a valuable commodity to those who like to feel like they are involved in their second life.
My favorite part of the game has to be the most tedious but well put. Understandably to keep people from jumping into the battle all ready and topped off the real time factor of building and researching gears players towards in depth strategy and thinking that rivals the best chess matches I’ve seen.
Also, and I’ve said this before and will always back it, the Micropayment system is an awesome way to run a game without forcing members into monthly payments. People who dont want to pay for any games can play while others who do not mind donating to keep a game going can enjoy little extras making it well worth the benefit.
There is, unfortunately a few downsides as well to Evony, none that should stop you from playing the game but ones that will frustrate you a little as all games do.
One thing is the Medal system. There are a multitude of ways to collect medals from battling NPC’s to Resource Valleys and lucky rolls of the Amulet (Free Daily Item). While there is only a slim (1%-2%) chance of actually gaining amulets this can become frustrating when you are trying to collect 10 medals to get your next rank or title. They have done well trying not to let people go from newb to power gamer overnight however a small increase in medal appearances would be helpful to the players.
The Map has only 3 levels of zoom; city, town, map. This can be a little furstrating when you consider that you will be traversing anywhere from 1-200 miles trying to locate people and collect resources. A second expanded view of the map would make it easier, but its nothing serious to begin with.
Mailing is a big thing in Evony because wars, diplomacy and general shit talking all occur within emails 90% of the time. They only have a 500 word limit on mails which causes some un-needed continuations during those important emails.
If your still reading this that means you are interested in what you’ve read. I hope so because this game offers you annonymity to play anywhere and anytime (no music) and because its real time based it gives you time to do everything else you need to do and still not miss out on much.
If you, like I, have a love for Strategy Games and want something fun to do with your time why not come try to take over the world on Evony? If you join up, try Server 35 and find Julian Terenzio, i’ll be happy to help you out and get you started on the 2009 best RTS game of the year (imo).
Hail Evony!
Graphics: 3 – Decent, could use some sort of customized city look but otherwise well done for Flash.
Gameplay: 5 – Awesome, even though it takes time to make your kingdom come alive it makes it more worthwhile when its finished.
Fairness: 3 – Medals could drop more, in fairness to those who cannot afford to spend the $30+ to get it easy.
Challenge: 5 – Your playing against real people, you might be fighting a highschooler, a military tactician or a doctor so with varying levels of difficulty it’s a surefire way to test your talents.
Replay: 4 – It does take a long time to get started, so unless your extra good at multitasking I’d suggest focusing all your efforts into one account. However, that one account will keep you interseted throughout the term.

This game is the best i think everyone should tell there friends and family to play this game
August 22nd, 2009 at 10:28 am
The game has recently started offering a reward package for anyone who writes a favorable review. Everything is officially compromised. It’s not a bad game, but the people in charge of it don’t seem to be very effective at balancing and ensuring the gameplay continues to improve. Server updates happen without notice as to what all was changed. I’d say you are better finding another title to give your time and support to.

Anyone else notice that some of the building in this game, like the castle is similar to the building in Age of Empires 2 that was developed by Microsoft?

Evony is one of the best free online games around. It combines the popular city building and conquering concept found in many great games, such as Civilization Revolution, with the wildly popular team based concept of online games. This game is wildly addictive and there are an endless amount of quests and achievements that will keep you logging back on for months.
Today I level a countless number of barbarian cities, plundering all of their gold, lumber, stone, and iron that I then used to add on to my already massive city. I attacked the cities of my enemies, leaving them destitute and speechless as my armies assaulted their walls. I scouted across the massive world to find vulnerable enemies. The members of my alliance and I quietly strategize against the thousands of other players that we are at war with, as we laid waste to anyone foolish enough to confront us. I simultaneously command the armies of two different cities which number in the tens of thousands. I control the all of the mountains, deserts, forests, and even the lakes that surround my cities. The intellectuals of my cities researched tons of different technologies that gave my the fighting edge against my opponents. The people of my cities work day and night to provide my city with food and resources. I use my many treasures and medals I gained for my battles in order to gain rank and prestige above my foes. These are just a few of the many exciting situations that Evony has to offer players…FOR FREE. Yes that’s right, players can play this game for as much and as long as they want, without restrictions, for free. No strings attached. No cyber genius, thousands of miles away, hacking you credit card number off of the website sever and stealing your identity. Nothing to loose. It is free.
Fight and climb the way to the top as you confront other players, NPCs, and alliances bent on your destruction. Build your cities, grow your recourses, develop your armies, and build relationships and alliances in order to become one of the top players in the game. I am Uncleapyjak on server 30, and I invite you to come and join the thousands of players already enjoying the hours upon hours of endless fun. Warning, once you start playing this game, the fun and excitement of it will keep you from stopping.

Evony’s fun to play so far, but their customer service is horrible. Plus, false advertisement: recently they’ve added bonus package Aug C. Prerequisite: These packages are delivered as gifts to players who spend $30 USD or more during the event from Aug 22nd – Aug 27th. Purchased $30, then there was no Aug C package. Contacted them, all I got was auto-reply mail. Waited for 2 days, still nothing. Other than that, Evony is a good strategic game, just don’t plan on paying for it.

Evony Free Forever Online Game.
Evony is an online game that has taken the world by storm. The game is one where the player is a controller of a town or towns and will try to gain the control of the land as they play there way into war zone.
Evony involve a player starting off with a town that is a blank canvas and the players must make there own city. When you start to play Evony you are advised on how to play the game and these guidelines are very helpful. Along with guideline you may complete quests and obtain rewards for doing successful tasks from the game. These quests can be simple and quickly completed or can be tricky but you will gain the rewards.
Evony is a deeply addicting game and when you get into the spirit of things its very enjoyable along with playing by yourself you can join an alliance where there can be up to 100 players playing alongside you. In these alliances you can play with friends and communicate with your fellow alliance players in the alliance chat. The alliances can sometimes become hostile toward one another and you and your alliance may face a war where you can attack other players and try and defeat them and obtain their resources. I’m a player in OGB and we are at war with a few alliances but this is all in the fun of the game. Some alliances are small while others are very big and you wouldn’t want to pick a fight with them.
Now to your town where there are many building to be built and all for good reason. In the towns the are warehouses, cottages, relief stations, stables, inns, market places, feasting halls, rally spot, beacon tower, forges, work shops, embassy’s but in your town you will need a town hall and barracks these building are vital in the up bringing of your city. In your town hall you can see an overview of how your city is and how is it coping. In your barracks you can train troops to defend your city and also see how they can gain rewards for your city from valleys that are outside your town that produce resources which fuel your town.
On the outside of your town you have a city where your resources are harvested you can have different structures in your city from Iron Mines, Quarry’s, Saw Mills and Farms which will feed your population all these buildings along with the ones inside of your town have levels and the higher the level the more your town will gain from them but the construction time of each building that has a higher level goes up.
So that’s the game of Evony in my words and I hope you log onto the game and find out how great it is.

Evony Review by Crystalmagick
Evony is a good paced stratagy game. You begin with only the minimum of a city and you must build and build to make the city strong, and viable.
At the beginning, the developers are gracious enough to give you a 7 day period in which you have to build up your forces to be able to defend your town. Use them wisely. Building walls, forces, and traps etc is critical to hold off other players from attacking your town.
During the protection week. You should build walls as high as you can and as many troops as you can to protect your town. After your 7 days of protection you will need that strength because others are doing the same thing.
After your 7 days of protection are up, and you have followed the quests, at some point you will reach the rank of knight, which will allow you to control 2 cities instead of one. You are in control of managing everything in the cities, from how many people reside in them to how much of 4 key essentials they have available. Those are; iron, food, lumber, stone. You will need to build up area’s outside your city with alot of these to keep your city running smoothly and to keep the people happy.
Yes, the people can get angry, if they are not taken care of properly. They can revolt on you.
The sole purpose is to keep your cities strong and to as you grow conquer others. It does help when the developers allow for gifts to be given at milestones you reach in the game. They will give you packages that has items (that can also be bought in a cash store) for free for use in/on your cities.
The game is free to play, and quite honestly you most definitely can play this game without putting a dime into it. But it does help to do so, but only in a small sort of way. I believe this game is worth giving a chance to especially if you like strategy games and mmo’s as well. As this is a good combination of both.

Personally i think that the best thing about Evony is the community which the gamers share….and what better community in the game then an alliance? Because of this I’ve decided to share some top tips to anyone who is an alliance host on Evony:
-First off, RECRUITMENT. I strongly recommend that you try to get as many members to join your alliance as possible in the first few weeks of the game when new members are flooding into the new server. This is because as the game progresses more servers are made and the new members start going to the new servers. When this happens you should be very careful about recruiting new members as some…not many……but some are spies from other alliances who have made a new account on the same server despite this being illegal. Any new members after the first rush of players should be properly questioned before being let into your alliance. However, when the server is new, in order to get lots of members into your alliance i recommend you speak in world channel and say something like: ‘if you would like to join a great alliance ranked (what ever number ranked it is) then type 123′. then simply click on the names who type 123 and select invite. This technique has been very successful for me.
-Next, PROMOTION. In order to make your officers, presbyters and vice hosts to feel like their position is actually worth something try to keep the number of them to a minimum. I would recommend that you have about 7-10 officers, 4-5 presbyters and like 2 vice hosts. Before promoting anyone though make sure you check that they are good material for the position which they will be promoted to……for instance they must be able to help out weaker players by giving them resources or troops if they need them whilst still having enough for them selves.
-Now, DUTIES. Being a host you’ll have a lot of work to do with diplomacy and new members…….be sure to dump some of these duties onto your officers and presbyters. For instance you could give an officer the job of interrogating new members to check they’re safe and will be a valuable in the future.
-and MEMBER PROGRESSION. In order to get your members to get better, a good way of getting them to want to achieve is incentives: set them a target – say 7k prestige a day – and if they stick to it give them resources or gold. Also set 2 or more members against each other in a race to 30k prestige for example.
-And finally, MORALE. You want to try to keep morale up by making sure you have a friendly attitude towards each other in the alliance and try to utilise alliance chat not just to share tips and ideas, but also just to joke about and talk about life .Also ban any blocking of people inside the alliance and as host try to sort out disputes. This is an extremely valuable aspect of an alliance as often should your alliance chatting go quiet for a while many members might leave for a more sociable alliance…….make sure you keep the talk up!
In my opinion Evony is a really fantastic game and and alliance is a vital part of making it as much fun as it is. I hope my alliance host guide helps you to make your alliance achieve success in your server!

I am currently on 163k prestige in server 18 as Lord Lollipop now in the game and have been playing a while now and it has given me a good insite and historical knowledge of the historical side of the game. It is fun exciting and really worth joining. You meet new people from all around the world and i have learnt lots of things from them. When i joined an alliance they were so helpful i managed to get up lots of prestige because the alliance was friendly and helpful. I would recommend anyone join this game

I found it interesting at first and was interested to see what the game was like once you build up a significant army/city. It was a nice free distraction, but all in all, it was quite boring. I joined an alliance, killed a few people, got attacked and built myself back up. Many people leave the game once they’ve been beaten down, but I actually chose to leave when I was doing very well. After playing it a month, I decided it was just too pointless in the end. Quite a disappointment considering all the advertising.

This game sucks! PERIOD!
It is not a fun game to play, as it freezes up a lot, and you either have to re-boot, refresh or close the window to get back into the game!
Also you notice that some of the people around you have been spending, to upgrade or build their city! Unless you spend cash too, you will get left in the dust!
It takes soooooooo long to play, and you can only build or upgrade one at a time! It takes too long to play, and you get bored of it very quickly!
It is a game that has potential, if the owners of the game just tweak it a lot to make it more enjpyable to play!

I’ve been playing evony for a little while and i was doing quite well… but lately it seems that the people behind evony are all about getting money of players. Take for instance medals. You require medals to be promoted so you can get more cities, yet its extremely difficult to find medals and i’ve even read on their own forums that they make it harder to get medals on newer servers to prevent fast progression. However it feels like they forget to change it back… its nearly imposisble to find the right medals. The cost of buying items is extremely overpriced… and i would caution anyone thinking about playing it that if you put money into it like i foolishly did, you cannot transfer credits between servers and its like 24 dollars for a medium medal box (there are 10 evony cents to 1 dollar). If you do play and want to put money in… please do their cents reward scheme.
Lately it seems that many people are exploiting the game by building lots of npc cities and then farming like 30 cities a day. These players spoil the game for everyone else as they are exploiting the game and killing anyone’s chances of playing.
Please do avoid this game at all cost its unfair, too expensive and ‘free to play’ maybe… but you can’t get anywhere unless you pay money!

i need an answer to this as i am burning with curiosity? in the ads why show pictures of women all the time?
September 7th, 2009 at 1:02 am
After surfing the web for hours and hours and seeing the Evony-Free forever ads all over the the internet I finally gave in and wanted to at least see what kind of game it was. I signed up and as I started playing I realized it was an MMORTS type of game. I had played a game like this previously but it wasn’t very memorable since I can’t even remember what the name was but Evony-Free forever has got me hooked. For people who don’t know what an MMORTS let me give a crash course. This is the type of game where you gather resources such as food, lumber, stone, and Iron and build your town using those resources. Eventually you are able to fight other people if you choose but at first they give you 7 days protection to get yourself prepared. The game plays in real time meaning that if you are going to build something it could take 30 seconds to hours. This may scare a few people but its a lot less demanding that a regular MMO. Say you need to build something that takes an hour the user is able to walk away from the game and do chores, take a shower, clean the house or do whatever it is that people do in an hour. There are also alliances in the game which can have up to 100 players. There are always alliances recruiting and to prevent players from dropping an alliance they will lose what is called prestige which determines your ranking. This makes sure that people don’t just jump around and disturb the way the game is played. When I first joined my alliance we were in the top 100 of 600 and now we have moved into the top 30. The people in my Alliance have been a great help and have help me figure out a few things that I was confused about but now it’s me helping the new recruits. Even though I had questions this is a very easy game to pick up and start playing. Everyone in the game starts in a random location but one thing you are able to do is move your city with the use of an item. This is a huge benefit because it allows you to occupy a territory with your alliance so you are never left stranded by yourself. Overall I am happy I gave this game a chance and plan on playing for a long time. This is Division from the alliance Krynn on server 61 signing off.
September 10th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
They show busty women in the ads all of the time because their main target group is men and what man doesn’t like tits? Your question seemed rather self explanatory.

You want to be really careful with this game when it comes to using money to buy items. For example, if your in an alliance and it doesn’t work then naturally you may want to change. If you are in a top alliance then an ID name and a teleport makes sense. The ID name change costs $20 US Dollars and I had to recently do this to protect my identity. Only catch, the ID name change updates throughout the system and all mails sent by you previously take on the new ID name. So in a nutshell, it’s worthless. I’ve emailed Customer Support 7 times regarding this matter and they have completely ignored me. This too is something that you need to consider; evony.com customer support really doesn’t give two hoots.

Evony has ALOT of potential. However, they seem to be lacking. There is something wrong… They have the right idea and seem to be walking on the right path. But they just dont get it. They just dont understand MMORTS, gaming, western culture…

Evony is crap, a waste of time, a game solely made to sell virtual property for money. You have to be retarded to pay money for stupid game items.

I’ve been playing this game for a year or two now and I must say I am very impressed. I play on server 005. Evony is a very strategical game, where every decision that you make greatly effects your society. This has to be one of the greatest strategy games I have played. I might even admit that i find it a little bit more enjoyable then Command and Conquer. The alliances are a very important aspect of the game. Without an alliance that is near your area, you have a good chance of having your town destroyed against the more powerful players. Another great aspect of the game is the “real-time” that is needed for building, marching and even training, etc. If you are into a very strategic, test your wits game, then i would suggest you try Evony. I personally guarantee you will not be dissappointed.

I’m just wondering, why are all the ads now just pictures of real women? It seems like they’re ads for sex sites not a game. I got so mad at the game’s annoying ads that I made a character named Master Bation, said a few random things, then closed the game. Couldn’t find any women anywhere btw…

Well today Sept. 20th, 2009 I gave up on Evony after about 3 months of play. I am now trying to give away my cities to others in my alliance. The combat system is still screwy as in the original article. Also with the current combat system, you can make a city totally unconquerable with a few decent level farms and decent level warehouse (NO troops needed!).
In order to ‘conquer’ (I use the word loosely) a city you must get the loyalty of the city’s citizens down to 0 and then attack it one final time to own it
From what I have seen of the game this is supposed to be a build your cities and conquer other player’s cities. A nice supposed to be fun strategy type game.
One slight problem…
If the person follows the directions below, the only way you can conquer his/her city is when they are offline. Where is the fun in taking a city if the owner doesn’t even know you did?
If you want to make your city unconquerable, build several farms and a warehouse (not sure of level minimum, it really depends upon your city’s population level). Don’t you need troops to make a city unconquerable?? NOPE!! The less troops the better!! They eat up the food you need to keep your city.
Now whenever you get attacked, don’t worry. Wait until your city loyalty goes down to 15 (starts at 100), after that the loyalty goes down by 1 point every 5 or 6 minutes no matter how many times you get attacked! So every 15 minutes the loyalty will drop a maximum of 3 points. Not a problem either! This actually helps you keep the city. Also every 15 minutes you can do “Comforting” to raise the loyalty. The “Comforting” that you want to use is called “Disaster Relief”. Disaster relief only requires food and it raises the loyalty by 5. Since the attackers will be stripping your resources of your city when they attack this is where your farms come in to supply the food and your warehouse hides it from the attackers. Well since loyalty will go down up to 3 and then you raise it 5, your city’s loyalty goes up 2 points every 15 minutes! You can’t conquer a city if the loyalty never reaches 0 so just keep using disaster relief over and over and your city can never be conquered!
What’s the point of a city conquering game where you can’t conquer cities?

Evony Age I
Evony! The mere mention of this game brings mixed emotions to those who have played, those who play and the significant others of players. I must admit that when I first started playing I was very skeptical of the game and going online to play. Whenever someone says “free”, I start to wonder how good the product could actually be. In the case of Evony, I was surprised and impressed at the quality of the product.
As The Sofa King and a new player on Server 25, I followed the quests that the Evony crew had created. This was very straightforward and allowed a novice player time to learn the ropes. As my empire started to grow, I searched around the net and found many great sites that offered tips and tricks to building. Then I was invited to join an alliance. This was one of the best options the game offered me.
As an alliance member there were others who I could ask questions to and receive help. On several occasions, I was low on resources and other members would send supplies to help me get up to speed. After some time I became a noticeable player and was attacked by other alliances. In those situations, my alliance members offered support and sent troops to help defend my villas. This started to build a bond of sorts between myself and other players.
I also started to notice that the players ranged in age from early teens to late 60’s and included husband, wives, brothers, sisters, roommates, fathers, cousins, coworkers and the like. In one alliance, I played with a whole family, the dad (in his 60’s), the son (in his 20’s), the girlfriend (in her 20’s), and nephew (in his 20’s). It was fun to watch their online banter back and forth, as they talked about what had happened that day. Sometimes they were in the same room and at other time, they were in different houses.
At first, I thought the alliance thing and the online chat was worthless, however, this was a short-lived oversight on my part. Online chat started to become fun, as the members would banter back and forth on things they were doing. Then during attacks, the chat became a lifeline to those being attacked and a supply line for those attacking. In short, the chat increased the fun and strategy of the game.
As I continued to progress in the game and my needs increased, those needs were met by the offers from the Evony team. Improvements were made in how one can win rewards, supplies and receive bonuses. Each month there is a special package that offers players an opportunity to purchase items to help them advance in the game. On a continual basis, the Evony programmers are looking for ways to make the game more fun, more responsive and more challenging. I look forward to the changes and maybe I will see you online. – Sofa King

Evony is a MMORPG that utilizes the top-down interface of kingdom management. The player builds structure to harvest resources, advance in warfare skill, and build armies for conquest. The interface is easy to navigate and the structures and units are easy to understand and manipulate. In the world of Evony, I am Nasamomdele of server 65.
Evony offers an intense beginner’s crash course in the game. You get to know units, structures, controls, and procedures with a lucrative incentive system that keeps things moving quickly. It is hard to step away from the game for the first few hours, especially if you play your cards right.
As your kingdom grows, so does the world and the opportunities presented to you. For lack of a better description, the game is exciting. It is ruled by economics and diplomacy. Good management gets you farther than armies. You manipulate taxes, production, loyalty, and development.
The development feature alone is multi-faceted and engaging. You develop the city and the specific structures of a city, as well as developing the countryside for resource harvesting, and further, the world is your battlefield for conquest and further expansion.
One compelling feature of this MMORPG is that the game takes place away from your attention as well. You can return after a number of days or hours and find that your kingdom has changed dramatically, for better or worse. Your kingdom does not require constant supervision. Certain items can even ensure that you will not be attacked or return to see your kingdom in ruins for a given amount of time. Evony accommodates your time. As you spend time elsewhere, your resources accrue and your kingdom progresses in the direction in which you left it.
Challenges of the game include the lulls in action when you find yourself short of resources and forced to wait until they accrue. Upgrades and constructions can be very resource-dependent and you can often find yourself taking advantage of the progression the game goes through while you’re away.
I found myself in the fog of war playing Evony. I did not know what to expect in combat and I paid the price. I would send too few units to too high of a level area on the map, not knowing what either thing meant. Afterwards, I felt that the same tutorial-style quest system might have encouraged me to prepare larger forces for attacking the territories around me.
But in all, Evony is an entertaining and compelling game, with a comfortable progression through the world and exciting incentives to keep you coming back.

Evony is the biggest waste of time ever, you spend a lot of time building things up and all it takes is one hostile bully with high prestige and lots of armies to wipe you out in a few hours and thus you loose it all in a flash.
So if you want to waste hours and days only to find yourself with nothing, then go ahead and play it.

Evony’s advertising is designed to entice people who are impulsive (porn clicker personality disorder?) as this is the same type of person who will send $BIG$ to evony via paypal without thinking to upgrade their virtual barracks to impress the big breasted queen. Evony must be making a lot of cash from impulsive porn addicts to fund so many ads, pretty diabolical game. Evony players are competing with each other to get close to the Queen’s big fake hooters, alas it is just a dream

I love this game!!! It’s very fun! I recommend everyone who plans to play go in SERVER 51!!! Join alliance Orion!!!
I have barracks, town hall and wall all lv 10!!!!!

Oh my gosh! From what I read, this is almost an exact clone of a different game called Travian. It came out first and uses the same system as Evony. Even the town/city layout. Leveling up with one building per city is there too. Timing as to when things will happen is from Travian. You can even conquer enemy villages in Travian [which is very similar but probably doesn't come as quickly as this game.] Now, I suppose this is a more medieval scene, whereas Travian is anchient times. Pretty much early A.D. In a way, it makes sense. Not everyone will like an anchient setting. Many warfare likes tend to go towards Evony’s time period. Either way, it’s veeeeerrry similar to Travian…

I’ve been playing Evony for the last 6 months and have enjoyed it more than any other MMORTS.
You can make alliances, go to war, talk, build an economy and build towns. It’s a combination of everything Online war games stand for!
I have invited many of my friends to play Evony and most of them agree with me, it’s incredible.
The Evony team have done well.
Congratulations to the Evony team for such a great game

I started playing Evony a month ago. The ads were everywhere, including on the WetPaint site I’d created for our church youth group. I had the whole weekend off, and decided to check it out. I wound up on Server 67 just a few days after the server went on-lin.
Playing Evony has turned out to be a lot of fun.
In the beginning it’s all building your city, and getting rewarded for it through the quests. Beginner’s chat is free. After you join an Alliance you get access to Alliance Channel. — a chatroom for all the players in your Alliance.
Posting on World Channel chat is not free. It costs an in game item called a “Speaker” every time you post there.
For me the real fun of the game is in building my Alliance. I enjoy creating and improving my cities, and sending my troops out to raid or take over valleys, but I love being a contributing member to an Alliance that is full of people I care about and have fun hanging out with. We all met online when we joined our Alliance, and we’re from all over the world. Michigan, Indiana, Chicago, Massachuetts, Alaska, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and more.
I’m in Kiwis and we work together and help each other out. Lots of us hang out in Alliance Chat all the time we are on line.
The middle of last week we successfully worked together to help out a member who was under attack by another player. Three of us reinforced her with troops and she opened her city gates so we could all go out together and fight the enemy. She had been a sitting duck. The enemy was enroute to her city with close to 20,000 troops and she only had about 5,000. Thanks to Alliance channel and the way we all hang out there — she was able to call out for help and we sent her three garrisons that bumped her up to well over 30,000 troops lots of who were high level archers so we obliterated the enemy and took few losses. — Very satisfying!
Our Alliance is getting big enough now that we are talking about creating a sister Alliance, and trying to figure out how we can continue to build the Kiwis community spirit and sense of family as we grow in player numbers from one in-game alliance to two alliances, and down the road maybe more.
We’re are playing together as a community, and having lots of fun. — The only drawback is there is no way to share in game Items. I can have extra Rose Medals in my item inventory, but I can’t give them to the new alliance member that needs them in order to become a Knight. He has to buy them, find them, or win them from Wheel of Fortune.
Evony is indeed free and without in-game advertising other than for the Evony Shop. It can be free and without ads because Evony rakes in the money when players buy in-game cents. $5.00 will get you 50 in-game cents that you can spend for items in the game. Most items cost $5, a few are less, and some are a lot more. Want to get your 8th level walls built instantly ? Need medals to advance in rank? Are you short a small amount of some resource for a critical build, or research? — spending cents lets you resolve all that instantly — it’s very tempting. Folks with the ability to spend on cents — are spending.
Evony runs special promotions all the time about special bonus packages for players who buy $15 $30 or $50 worth of cents by a particualr date. They even have a Autocents program so you can sign up for a monthy budget of cents.
They are making lots of money, and don’t need to charge for access to the game.
A knowledgable and ded icated player can play the game well and not spend any money. All players are eligible for some bonus packages of items, and every day each player is awarded an amulet that entitles them to one spin of the wheel of forturne. The wheel displays a random selection of in-game items each day, and randomly awards one of them to you when you spin.
The Host of our alliance isn’t spending and he has more Prestige and Honor than any of us. You can be a winning player and have a lot a lot of fun on Evony without spending any money.

This has the makings of a great game that I would have loved to play more but the designers are just to greedy.
Every way you turn there is a need to buy coins to advance and in a PvP game the battlefield is not even close to even when so much depends on purchasing coin.
For example to expand one needs medals which in theory are supposed to drop from attacking valleys. In practice thr drop rate is so low that tou have to spend increasing amounts of real life cash to expand.
Another example is that there is no building queue in the game and expansion to keep up with your neighbours requires speed-ups…… You guessed it more real cash.

This game is a big waste of time. Really. As someone stated before it took 1 bully to wipe you out. 2 weeks into the game, I get hit by a 127k bully with 42k archers. And I’ve kept at a fast pace in building defenses. 2weeks – 5k warries, 1k archer, 2k archer towers. Please don’t waste any more effort in this game. Free until you get attacked and u’ll end up paying all those white flag. DON’T PLAY THIS GAME

I have been playing this game for some months now and i have finally broken the habit, If you are prepared to give up 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to play this game then this is for you, If you are prepared to wake up one morning only to go online to find that while you were asleep everything you had spent weeks or months building had been trashed by the enemy then this is the game for you. No I’m not a sore loser because I left the game with 6 cities and three quarters a million troops but believe me this is not a game it is mental torture and if you dont believe me just try it or ask someone who has been trashed. When even your dreams are interupted by this game you just know somethings wrong.
October 26th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Its an ok review of the game but has a few mistakes.
1st, infantry are not useless. Each unit has attack bonuses against other types of troops (ex: Swordsman are good against archers, pikemen are good against cavalry and cataphracts, etc). It is better to have a lot of archers that are backed by a well balanced horde of swords, pikes, cavalry, cataphracts, and warriors (warriors are highly usefull as meat shields as many wall defences are 1 time use only. A wave of 100k warriors may all die, but they will take out ALL defences except the archer towers, and once your archers, ballistas, and catapults are done with those, you can cavalry spam the hell out of the city until it is yours)
2nd, When troops are marching, your food production increases, it is only when they are defending a vally that the food production doubles. When you tell them to return from defending, the food production remains doubled UNLESS you do anything that requires resources, such as heal your injured troops from the battle to conquer the vally. Once you do this, the food production goes back up to what it was when they were marching to the vally.
3rd, A mayor with high attack does not increase your armies attack, but rather, decreases the ammount of time it takes to build troops.
4th, There are 2 measures of how you compair to other players, prestige (which was described well), and honor. Honor is gained and lost in battle. If you attack some one, and the cost of your casualties is a lot lower than the damage you did, you gain honor. If it is the other way around you lose honor. Its as simple as that.
As for the comment about this game being mental torture, they are 100% correct. You can lose EVERYTHING over night, and if, like me, you become host of a strong alliance that is part of a brotherhood or sisterhood that is know for bullying other alliances, diplomacy can be a b!tch. In one day, a server wide war started and a total of 21 different alliances declared war on us. So like Steve said, if you are prepaired to devote all of your free time to the game, are willing to rebuild after every city has been conquered and your last has been decemated by a 2mil prestige player that did it just because he could, and don’t mind lag so bad that you find yourself getting booted from any given server 2 or 3 times a day for up to 24hrs (o yah, its happened) then go right ahead and join the world of Evon. And once you’ve join, if you are on server 5, look up and apply to alliance SOP, the training to KingsIV, a brotheralliance of Kings, the strongest alliance on the server.

The long reviews on this are so blatantly written by Evony jerks. Ths game is a complete scam, with gameplay only slightly better than playing patience. Medal drops are virtually non-existent forcing you to spend $$$ DON’T PLAY THIS GAME!
October 28th, 2009 at 9:23 am
I’m not using my more commonly-known online nickname mainly because I don’t want other players to know of my current Evony situation.
That situation is being unable to connect for over 2 days now, after being guilty of spending $40 in order to get the much needed Rose Medals required for rank neccessary to start a third city. Had I known I’d be unable to build defenses in that city so soon after paying, I would have spent that money on another, more accessible game.
Iian’s assessment is a little strongly to the point, but I do not entirely dissagree. The technical issues soon have many who pay, regretting doing so. I suspect the Evony business model is more along the lines of Free Always (unless you want to succeed or have the required ranks to have more than just the first two cities). It’s not always a matter of patience, moreso, it’s that it would appear they have made the so-called random chances of aquiring the much needed medals impossible without having to pay. It’s also not cheap. You cannot buy the needed medals directly, instead, you must by items called Junior Chest to get those medals and those chests give them randomly, so you could (like me) end up having to invest over $40 in buying several of such chests with a relatively low chance of getting anything more than 1 of the specificly needed medals with each $8 chest. ($40 value based on my also gettign a few medals from holliday bonusses you recieve with some other payment options. Could be significantly more without those bonusses). To give a more clear example, To start building a third city, the title of Baronet is required. That title requires saving up 5 Lion medals and 10 Rose medals. You may (as was my case) have close to half of the required rose medals and possibly all of the Lion medals needed, left over from the beginners package or similar bonusses, but still needed about 6 or 7 more Rose medals. If the first Junior Chest purchase only gives one Rose medal, which is often the case, you’d need another, costing another $8. If you only need five Rose medals, this could end up costing you close to $40 off the bat. In my case, I needed 7 Rose Medals, but was lucky enough to get two of them in a single chest twice.
If that would not be discouraging on it’s own, then also consider how every few weeks, the game is inaccessible due to server connection errors for a random stretch of time averaging anywhere from 12 to 48 hours, enough time for the few who are able to connect to completely kill off one or more of your cities.
Evony makers like to bribe people for biassed reviews, offering 500 game coins (worth $50) for notable good reviews, which is likely why you don’t see as many negative reviews, but from an unpaid, unbiassed perspective, I can see why such payments would be needed to keep up the advertising, when there are so frequently technical issues preventing overall enjoyment of the game and more and more players are starting to realize the catch or gimick which allows Evony to advertise as a “Free Game”. Another sales tactic employed by Evony is to offer significant bonus incentive to spend over $30 (usd) within the first 7 days, to rush people into paying something before they have time to discover the shortcomings. It really isn’t much different that doing business with a high-pressure used car salesman.
Somebody had asked what use the other units are and I can assure they do have their uses. Archers may get first-strike capability, but if they do not completely kill the defenders, they can soon be overtaken by the faster units such as cavalry and scouts. Cavalry is also good for very rapid resource transportation to allies. The game has units called transporters, which can carry much more than any other unit, but they move so slow that an equal number of cavalry can carry just as much in the same amount of time or less by being able to make several trips. Since cavalry can also be used to quickly raid and capture low level NPCs and valleys, they become much more valuable in their multiple roles as transporters are worthless in combat and only serve a single purpose. Swordsmen, as well as workers and warriors are cheap and quick to train, which makes them worthwhile in sacrificing to traps and fortification defenses, so your archers and in many cases cavalry, do not need to worry of such things.
I will continue playing, mainly to support my alliance, but I doubt I’ll make the mistake of paying any real-world money into Evony.
(In the event any of my alliance members might read this and if they are able to connect to the server, you’ll know who I am by my purple beard and pirate flag)

Evony is just an online version of the Civilization series, except more complicated.
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:23 am
I am a student studying computer games design at uni and decided to investigate Evony.com.
Just to see what some of these games are like etc. etc.
The game is actually kind of cool (found myself addicted and even spent a little money on it).
But I started to notice HUGE bandwidth use by the site as I played.
I am not the only one either, there are comments on the evony forums about this.
This is odd because all of the client info, the animations etc. are all downloaded in one big download at the start.
There is no streaming media so I began to wonder what was going on.
To cut a long story short I decided to break the law and reverse engineer Evony’s client.
Not to cheat. Not to rip them off or even to use even a scrap of the code.
But just to poke about a bit and find out what was going on, maybe even offer them some ways to improve things.
Aside from the fact that the whole thing is very poorly constructed (it is really very beginner coder level stuff. Reminds me of a lot of
what the first year students produce for assignments) it contained some very interesting information.
Included with the client are 2 peices of tracking software that monitor your web use and which applications you have open while the client is running.
These do not install independently on the machine though due to the limitations of flash and do not actually damage anything.
But they harvest massive volumes of information. My firewall was blocking a lot of outgoing transmissions and it turns out that these
were the data trying to be sent out. So they know nothing about me. lol.
However there is a LOT of data coming IN over the ports the client uses. In otherwords it is downloading something into my cache for use later.
I have bandiwdth restriction which slows these types of tricks down and I completely clear my cache every couple of hours if I am heavily using the net.
I also noticed that all the varanbles etc. are named Civony still and that there are multiple references to UMGE.
Even a couple of folders are simply called UMGE, one of these folders contains one of the spyware programs.
So I can only guess at where the data would end up if I didnt have a good firewall.
There are also commented out sections in the code which contain references to UMGE and Lam himself, though low on details.
Thank you for reading this.

The ads are always of some hot-damn near naked woman…and I KNOW it’s nothing to do with that stuff, so I decided to read the review on it, and just as suspected….NOTHING HERE ABOUT HOT WOMEN! The ad makers are either conniving evil geniuses or just flat out false advertisers-lol
November 15th, 2009 at 6:11 am
Me and my friend have always avoided the Evony Ads, as most of them are highly suggestive, manipulative and don’t seem to relate to the game much at all. But, recently as I’ve taken up an interest in Browser games and am currently in the process of designing one myself, so I decided it would be stubborn of me not to take a look. So on first entering the site I see the claim ‘Worlds Best Web game,’ but if the game was so good, why do they need to use manipulative techniques to get people to play it. I also hate claims like this, as there are many web games available and they range wildly on styles of game-play, so in the end it’s down to the user. So anyway, waiting to be impressed and blown away by Evony I decided to take a quick look. From first thoughts I decided it looked nice and had potential, I built my first cottage, only to realise how long it would take. To speed it up I thought maybe I could build two at once, only to be told it’s impossible. It also doesn’t help that it’s lagging and sometimes my button clicks don’t seem to register.
From those Ads and homepage I also thought it was suppose to be a free game, but yet I began to receive mail through it telling me to part with my money for extra stuff. I dislike browser games that provide you with the options to speed things up by parting with real money, as once you get hooked it gets mightily tempting. You also get the problem of people who have cash over-powering pretty quickly and taking over the game, even though they haven’t dedicated as much time to it as you have.
I can’t help feeling I might as well be playing one of my other games such as Civilization or Age of Empires. I’ve heard that it can get very enjoyable after a few days of play, so if I have the patience I’ll keep trying, but I’m afraid they already alienated me the moment they released those false ads…

I LOVE Evony! It is tons of fun! It’s a strategy war game where you can really be the best in the world! I love getting teleporters and changing states and locations, building up my population, keeping my tax rates low, and building up my walls! I would HIGHLY reccomend ANYONE to play Evony, and i’ve already gotten my 19 year old brother to sign up and he’s addicted! I’m working on getting my friend Liz to sign up and both these people have money to spend on buying game cents! It’s 100% free FOREVER! And just because you dont pay money doesnt mean ANYTHING! Start an alliance, make friends, make enemies, DO ANYTHING!! I totally adore Evony and get on every day for as long as I can. Really, check this website out- it’s garunteed to be a bucket (or twenty!) of fun!
November 17th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Evony is fun to play but has some serious issues. Many positive reviews
emphasize “free for forever”, but this is very misleading. Advancement is
capped by a combination of things to force purchase of items. No leveling beyond level 9 is possible (given one free level 10). Additional cities beyond
one additional city depends on rose medals which simply do not appear.
I play with Firefox on a Mac and the display of text is so broken that you
can’t get a lot of the information you need. Especially irritating are the
scroll bars that keep covering the text you are trying to read. Also the text is laid out in such a way that it appears the program has set line size to one letter, creating long columns of text a few characters wide. I’ve tried to find info on this problem with Evony forums with no success. Player impatience has made this a very profitable game for its owners. The owners have some legal and ethical problems being reported in the media.

Evony would be an interesting game, I think, if I could ever log in or play it. Unfortunately, the lag in my world has become so bad that even instant transactions are drawn out 5-10 minutes. I used to enjoy the strategic aspects of game play, but there is simply no ability to achieve anything when the quality of the game is so poor.
I would not recommend this game, as my experiences appear typical for evony users. They get you to start an account, spend money, and then they let the server blow up, apparently. Evony is a SCAM.

I myself am an extremely active player of server 5 on evony. This is a great review of the game except for the fact that you over dog the combat system. Only the noobs and nonexperienced players bit*h about it because they dont understand it. Unfortunately I dont have the time to explain it but ultimately a great review.

Oh, I know how to play the game! There is no way to build up a 100,000 man strong defense by one week. And thats what you need to defend your city it seems. And theres no fucking way to do that while all of the gay established players are attacking your city with 10,000+ archers and 20,000+ cavalry and stealing ALL of your resources and gc.
If youre looking to find out whether or not to begin playing this game, my recommendation is DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! Sure things will go well for a week then the suck fest begins.

@robert c, and others -
I too had an issue with the buttons in the web browser going slow on evony, my brothers was really quick though, so I did some tinkering, and after updating my video graphics drivers, it worked a lot quicker, that might help some of your guys issues with this, well at least it did for me. Cheers!

i totally agree with many ppl who posted these comments bout evony being a scam. Seriously, whoever is the evony team is simply wasting our time and money. I had started playing this game over a year ago and i am still a knight!

I have started to play this game and to be frank, I was not expecting it to be as good as it is. The first thing that stands out is the feeling of community with the other gamers which seems to have been initiated from the developers them selves and is sorely lacking in the majority of other games out there at the moment.
The game itself is totally free and you have the choice to keep it that way or to increase your rate of success by purchasing Cent’s. The game also encourages you to go on multiple times rather than sit there for hours on end. The rate at which you can build up your city is up to you.
The only flaw I have found is that there seems to be a lack of instructions to assist you in your quest, but I am a new boy to the game so might not have found it as yet.
I have also noticed that the game attracts gamers from all ages from teens to oldies like me who just enjoy the distraction for an hour a day.
The graphics are excelent but I would like to see them go even further like in the Lord of the rings games which I thoureghly enjoyed. I am sure that with the advent of more and more players, the game will expand and with it the quality of graphics.
I am genuinely looking forward to playing this game and would reccomend it to anyone. Unlike some of the more complicated games out there, you can jump right in from the start and start to build your little empire.
Download it and enjoy..

What can you say about evony. It is the most addicting game I have ever played. The time based game makes you just want to keep trying and trying to come up
with the best way to make it to the top of the rankings. It will have you jumping server to server trying to see if you can become the strongest on that
particular server. It will constantly have you trying to finish as many things as you possibly can at once to get you going faster in the game. Wars will
break about between your alliances and you will crush people and get crushed at the same time. Just to rebuild and do it all over again. I have never been so
entertained by a time based game as I am with this one. One of the best features of this game is the 7 day protection. For the first 7 days you can not be
attacked or attack anyone. Unless you feel you are strong enough and then you can just upgrade your town hall to lvl 5 and your out. That makes it good for
new players on the server to get a headstart before they get attacked. Another great aspect of this game is that there are no cheats or hacks available. All
the cheaters out there are stuck with playing by the rules in this game. That really makes it better for the players who don’t cheat in games and like to
play by the rules. There is an extra feature like in most games now to be able to buy coins with USD and have a chance to make yourself stronger. Also there
is almost like a lotto feature where you use amulets to spin a wheel and win random prizes. Whichevery day you revieve one amulet to try to win something
good. The makers of Evony also try to make the game pretty realistic with the tax rate feature and food usage. Each person in your city uses food and
depending what their job is they may use more or less. The stronger they are of course the more they eat. Also with the tax rate depending how much you
charge your loyalty can go up or down. Loyalty will affect how many people come to your city and your population affects your production rates and how many
soldiers you can make. All in all this is hands down the best free time based game I have ever played. Definately have recommended this to my friends and
they all loved it too.
I am Lord Jester on server 106 in alliance ANGELS. Come join if you would like!

I played this games for months and was really into it and logged on one day to find all my city was erased. I would not recommend playing this game at all you will log on one day and months worth of gaming will be gone. Don’t waste your time.

I am not a big fan of those browser “Strategy” games. But when a game using breast and etc as an add that have no use from the game. So do i it just make it on the “not to play list”. But thanks for the review. Now i know what it is about. Because those lose girls in the ads don’t tell shit what it is about.

like ok im 15 ya know. the ‘porno’ age . well thats what everyone at my school says. anyway. i saw ads of this but it showed on the ads like a naked chick lying down say ‘ come play my lord’ and then it says it will appear unnoticed on your browser. now i thought this was a game where u would do some stuff and nail a chick in the end. I find out its some shit old nerdy piece a crap. what gives?!?!?!?!?

It’s a pretty cool game, wonder when age 2 will start though. They’ve been talking about that for half a year, but still no concrete information around about it.

I have recently started playing Evony two weeks ago and loving it. I noticed reading the other reviews they stress about building times and such which in all the case I see no issue if you learn from experienced players and take their advice. I got a hero with 100+ politics and construction 9 research and build times are not that slow. Almost completed all my buildings to lvl 9 already. In all the struggle learning I think this is the best MMORPG game I have run across lately and has kept me occupied for the past two weeks that I have made alot of friends. But lately been concentrating on farming NPC’s to build my resources faster. But I started on a new server which is 126 to learn from my mistakes from server 118 and now building faster then normal. I rate this game 9 out of 10 and for the reason being a 9 is because the medals are not dropping like they said they were on the earlier servers. If the drop rates where higher this game will recieve a 10 out of 10 for being a flash based game. If I had the chance I would help them with testing but I highly doubt that will happen. But in general, game play is great, the pvp is great, the stats are great, the guides to the games are almost perfect and of all the great free gift each day. If you want to learn more about this game go try it out for yourself. Good luck and have fun. Sincerely LordShadow Server 126.

I’ve been playing Evony since Server 95 was first started. This has got to be one of the best game I have ever played to date. Getting accepted into an established alliance is a must for new players. Having a good alliance enables you to get help and tips from players who are familiar with the game and who will supply you with the knowledge on how to best get you game moving along. New players should not get discouraged or believe that Evony is slow or not stimulating enough. New members should follow the game quests when first getting started to get the ball rolling faster. It may take some time to get your buildings leveled up or to create a massive army, but those are goals that each new player should have. Researching greatly improves building times, troop production, defenses, etc. Upgrading all your research will cut down on those long building times. Once you get your cities and troops built up, your game will take off. Your alliance will start getting friendly with other alliances and may declare war on some. Once you start attacking other players or defending your cities, you are in for a lot of fun. This is when your strategy techniques will come into play. Your fellow alliance members have the capability to reinforce you in the event of an attack or transport resources to your cities should you find yourself low on supplies. Attacking valleys and NPCs will allow you to collect resources and medals and also allow your attacking hero to gain experience. Collecting medals enables you to get promotions in the game so that you can create or conquer even more cities. The game continues to play even when you are not logged on, so be prepared to log in to surprises once in a while. Evony is free for all users, but there is an option of buying game cents that you can use to purchase items in the shop. The shop included everything that you may need to advance in the game a little bit quicker. Ah, and lets not forget the daily amulet, which you will receive free every night at midnight server time. You can use the amulet for a spin on the wheel of fortune. The wheel items vary, and give you a chance to win anything from medals to resources to speed-ups and more. If you find that you need additional help with your game, Evony offers great guides to help you along. Evony is also a wonderful place to meet lots of great people. The members span the globe and the ages, so everyone can feel as if they belong here. I highly recommend Evony to anyone who is looking for a great MMORPG. Try it for yourself and you’ll see. Thanks, LadyGemynii Server 95

I was playing Evony for about 3 months now. Suddenly, today everyone has to start over. People r screaming mad. They lost their cities, alliance, everything!!! Therefore, their money as well. They want their money back! Players can’t find other players. You try to whisper to someone, the server will say that player doesn’t exist. It’s chaos out there, and people are rioting on-line. It’s a decent game. We have some good people out there from all around the world. Some do complain that they wish they can see the battles. Until today, I have never seen so many players burning mad!!!
