Cryptic Details Open Beta Plans For Champions Online

Couldn’t score yourself access to the Champions Online Closed Beta testing phase?  Fear not, for Cryptic Studios and Atari unveiled additional details for the upcoming Champions Online Open Beta a scant few hours ago.

As previously announced the Open Beta will kick off on August 17, with pre-orderees receiving guaranteed access to the super hero MMORPG.  Starting August 5 FilePlanet will begin offering the client for download in addition to handing out 50,000 keys.  The Open Beta keys will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis will be limited to specific regions – North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

As of press time the FilePlanet promotion explicitly asks that you be a subscriber to participate.  From the looks of things the free registartion accounts will not grant you access.  We have also queried Cryptic to confirm suspicions that Closed Beta participation will be carried forward.

[Update]

Cryptic Studios has confirmed the obvious, that Closed Beta accounts will remain active until launch.  However the company remained mum on the FilePlanet promotion, stating  that the “keys are for Fileplanet to give away.”
