Grind reminds me of the old woody allen skit/joke, where he's telling his therapist he hardly ever has sex with his wife, only once or twice a week. Then his wife complains they always are having sex, usually twice a week!

Clearly game companies like you being a subscriber for a long time. But this doesn't mean they have to drag out gameplay. Take EVEs skill learning - do you have to grind that out, or set it up and it takes time, but it does so automatically and even while offline.

Now imagine if you killed a monster and got some XP, but then there was also a large amount that slowly trickled into your character, even while your offline. You don't have to grind all that XP, and the company gets its maintained subscription.

There’s a few other things I’d say, but I’ve got that on my website.

"granted killing the bots was a good source of Abyss points" ah, no. 99% of bots are rank 9, so you get next to nothing from them - unless you classify 1 abyss point as a "good source".

"the only zerging that really goes from what I have seen so far is during the fortress fights," I don't know what server you are, bot there are zerg's everywhere on ours. Go rifting, kill a few peeps and within minutes you will have a zerg chasing you. Same thing in the abyss. This is one of my biggest complaints about the game... finding a CHALLENGING pvp fight.

And this isn't wow (if you want easy mode - go back there). Yes, it's a pain to go up levels later on, but why the rush? I'm 40 and i spend 80% of my time pvp'ing now, which helps alleviate the grind.

With that said, I do however agree that they should really ramp up quest XP given - and it's coming, let's hope they do it right this time round.
I do also agree that other players should give more XP - a hell of LOT more.
I also wouldn't mind battlegrounds/arena's. As much as I hate them in huge sandbox pvp games, aion isn't one of these. Combine these with the right rewards & they could also help with the grind, AND give us a brake from the mindless zergfest's than run rampant in Aion.

That's my 2c.

You forgot to mention how dungeon bosses in Aion have a high chance of -not actually dropping any loot- when you kill them. So have fun spending 2 hrs on a dungeon you can only run once a day (lockout timer) while having a very good chance of not getting anything for it.
I don't understand how such a mechanic would be considered a good idea by any dev.

Great post. Hit the two main points I have a problem with (Grind and Bots). I am so frustrated with the bots, reporting on a daily basis, and still seeing the same ones 2-3 days later, in the same spots. They have posted a tiered system they use for bot reporting, that is so absurd as to feel like a slap in the face for even bothering. In my younger years, I would keep the mindset "If you cant beat em, join em," but I really tried not to do the same in this game, I wanted to genuinely like it. But its getting so frustrating watching these people thrive, while I have to grind mobs for hours.

One big 'duh' moment to me regarding the grind, was when you saw a quest reward was 50-80k experience. But then you realized the mobs for said quest rewarded you 7-9k per kill. It's like...why bother questing at all, when just 8 kills can give you more experience. I couldnt even make it past my 30s, although hearing the horror stories post 30 I'm sure took a lot of my thunder away.

Back when I was 18, this game might have a chance in my hands, and I'd be one of those level 50s already. But I dont invest 10-12 hours a day anymore, and I especially hate grinding, after doing it in so many other games as a teen. Needless to say, my free month already expired Nov 1, and I dont know if I'll ever renew.

Solo being better than group play and the grind are 2 of my biggest pet peeves with most MMO's.
...
This grind has (to me) always seems like a large part of Korean style MMO's. Its the exact reason I won't buy any MMO coming from a Korean developer any time soon. They may be great at designing games for what their own country is looking for in an MMO, but not for my tastes.
...
Sad thing is, even if a developer gets it right, and design's an awesome MMO in every way, It will still have a hard time just because of the nature of MMO's, its hard to leave everything behind at your current MMO. Which is why we don't need any more WoW clone's. We need more "ideas" like Fallen Earth that are different in many ways from WoW. Problem is, FE is still not ready to be played yet. By the time it is, it will be too late, just like Conan.

Will teach all of you bandwagon jumpers a lesson I guess. You all will come back to WoW because it is the most complete game. In the meantime I enjoy reading about you floundering about trying to find an MMO that works
