As a Darkfall player, I have to say that was a good read.

You should look into joining the guild NEW. They are present on both EU and NA server.

A little more info about them can be found here

I'm glad you enjoyed your first day, it reminds me of the first day I played as I had those same feelings just killing a few basic goblins. After an hour of play I was able to take on a few goblins at a time and was able to effectively kill several before needing to rest. One tip is you can purchase a second newbie weapon(Doesn't drop when you die, infinite durability but doesn't give you skill gains) at most vendors under the starter weapons tab. It's 100 bucks and definitely worthwhile, I recommend to get the dawnstaff so you can use mana missile and heal-self, they are the only spells in the game with no reagent requirement. Mana missile will greatly help you in overcoming shamans and make sure to use the staves they drop so you can skill up your magic. Archery is also one of the most efficient ways to kill the basic mobs but I would suggest to stockpile a few hundred arrows before you start doing it. Lastly put up in trade chat that you are wanting to buy r0 weapons and there are tons of crafters who can make you good 2-handed weapons for very cheap(10g or less) which usually have much higher durability than vendor items and are better for PvE than 1-handed weapons.

Loved the write up and looking forward to day two with some pics!

Good read. I was also waiting for another MMO to capture my interest and had been watching Darkfall for a number of years as it was developed.

I'm not dissapointed in the least. It had a rocky launch and still has a number of issues but nothing has held my interest like this since UO.

I've played since EU launch and was excited (dare I say looking forwrd to) re-rolling two new characters on NA when it launched and even after all that time every hour I spend I game feels like a adventure.

I'm home. . . . . . .

Glad to see you found something to stave off the MMO ennui for at least a little white.

Nothing livens up a game experience like fearing for your life at every moment.

Good read. Goblins are tough compared to most MMOs where they make the first mobs passive.

One piece of advice that I found made things MUCH better, change some of your default key bindings.

Change Block (v) to right mouse button.
Change toggle interface (right mouse button) to scroll wheel click

Now you left click to attack, right click to block and tap your scroll wheel to toggle the interface on and off. This small change made the game feel Much more natural for me.

Try to buy/loot some two handed weapons ASAP. 2 handed weapons do a LOT more damage than 1 handers and are a LOT better for PvP. So start skilling up 2 handers as soon as you can.

Try to have a skinning knife on you. Skin the graves to get extra loots. Some of the skinned stuff it worth a nice bit on money, not so much goblin crap though.

Also get a staff. Once you start using mana missile on the goblins things will get easier. Also lesser magic also gives you a small self heal.

Definitely looking forward to the nest installment. I have been looking at Darkfall for a while. While I enjoyed UO and Shadowbane back when they were new, I don't know if i can deal with asshats as well now...
