Allods Open Beta Begins Feb 16th
Gala-net has announced that Allods Online open beta will begin for North America on Feb 16th. Back in Nov 09 when we had our Allods Online closed beta key giveaway, we received an overwhelming response for keys, in fact we still receive requests for keys, so I’m sure this is welcomed news for many of you. February 9th, 2010 Gala-Net, Inc., a leading free-to-play online game publisher, has announced today their Open Beta Test (OBT) for Allods Online in the North American market. The Open Beta Test will go live on February 16th and will allow players access to the entire game. All players are welcome to join the world of Allods, and there will be no restrictions to join!
Holy smokes this game looks just like wow. I watched some gamplay on youtube. I had to doublecheck that it wasn’t wow gameplay just named allod’s.

Conceptually the game sounded great, and I was REALLY excited about it. Got into closed beta and could only suffer it for a day or two, before quitting. Awful. Clunky. Blech.

Do u have to download a new client on 16th for open beta, or can u use the closed beta clien that u allready got?
Most MMOs are “just like WoW” at this point, but there’s a lot to recommend Allods on its own merit.
Things to be aware of:
1. At this point, there is no minimap navigation. This drives some people crazy, but I find it minor.
2. There is no auto attack. A lot of people are accustomed to being able to turn it on and go to town, but you can’t do that in this game.
3. F2P = stuff shop. Bag space will always be at a premium unless you’re willing to shell out for larger bags. The last time I was able to log in, they hadn’t opened the shop yet, so no idea how bigger bags translates into real money, but it might be well spent considering how much of a struggle it is in the early game.
4. Fatigue XP. Everything you do in the game earns you a certain amount of “fatigue xp”. I suck at explaining it, but if you’re going to play, I suggest you read up on it at the Allods Forums. It’s a good way to level fast, but if you don’t use it, you lose it.
In terms of content/lore, I find it’s a very unique, unusual world, and it’s much more interesting to me than most of the stories associated with other MMOs. The art is stellar, the races are interesting, and the quests, while pretty standard-issue, are (mostly) easy to complete and engaging. I’m looking forward to seeing how the PvP element works – never did get to that stage in the closed beta.
As f2p games go, I like it better than anything else I’ve seen or tried, and I like it better than most of the p2p games I’ve tried as well… except that one… that everyone plays…
