Welcome to Hyrkanian Insight, the new column where different aspects of life on Age of Conan (AOC) will be treated weekly. I do consider myself a roleplayer, but my blood also boils whenever I get my hands on epic gear or surviving some of the encounters throughout the different instances the game has to offer. And though I am not a fan of open PvP, I do enjoy now and then the thrills of fighting other players… well, I should say getting ganked for, admittedly, I’m not a good PvPer, hehe.  And today, I’d like to tell you about the “adventure” of returning to an “old” game.

Haven’t you ever wondered how much a game changed after you have quit? Did you never feel the urge to log back in and rediscover things and maybe even meet people you left behind? There are many reasons to stop playing a game, but when the chance to return presents itself, not everyone chooses the same title, and simply goes to explore other lands and universes. Each game has a number of players that keep “taking breaks” and coming back regularly, and AOC is not an exception to this phenomenon. If you wonder how it would be to come back, or if you never tried this one out,  let me tell you about the European version of Age of Conan: Hyborian adventures.

Welcome to a new chapter of MMOries of a Gamer. This time I’ll tell you of my little adventures in Everquest II, when I was quite a newbie, back in late 2004. By then, I was pleased with SOEs games and, after playing Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies, couldn’t help but ordering EQ2, even before the Europe release. That cost my a lot of money but, you know, I’m a gamer.

MMO Halloween TreatsHalloween!  Oooo!  Scary!  And all across the MMOashpere there are events, quests and celebrations to mark the occasion.  Below is a hefty sampling of those events, presented in no particular order, because it would be bad form to show favoritism.  (And also because I’ve got like thirteen pages of event announcements to talk about and if I don’t do it soon, I’ll be the last of the living meat-sacks left in the building when the zombie hoard arrives.)

And so, without further eloquence…

Yes, you heard it here first – Tasos Flambouras has confirmed in yesterday’s Activity Report that an aforementioned “unnamed feature” is indeed offline skill progression. This certainly changes things a bit, doesn’t it? For one, Darkfall will no longer have a reputation of grind tedium, and players will be able to busy themselves with more relevant tasks while foregoing the more mundane and simplistic ones. We don’t have all the information yet, though. Tasos emphasizes that this decision has been made in an attempt to curb macroing and alleviate the level disparity between new players and veterans. However, rest assured that only trivial skills will be subject to offline progression; the developers at Darkfall are keeping a close eye on game balance, and do not intend to add a “convenience” feature in any form.

Once more, with the coming of a new month, FunComs Age of Conan reveals more details of the next update series, the 2.1 which will include not only more content, both for pvp and pve,  but also social, something not too usual. But that’s not all, for this series will include as well some major upgrading on the tech side of the game; something that we, end-users, won’t notice much but that should help improve a lot running the game for those without the latest components on their computers.

Like many other MMOS, Forsaken World, the new Perfect World Entertainment creation, has a very classic background story behind. In FW, two gods seems to bug each other endlessly, representing the old battle between Order and Chaos. The result is easily predicted, a world in conflict where players play the main role of saving Eyrda from falling into eternal chaos and evil. As I told you, a classic.

The trailer looks really good and shows some gorgeous graphics for this new MMO. What I like the most is the soundtrack, reminding me of Hans Zimmer in some moments. Though this is only a presentation video for the game, it lets you get a glimpse of it. Now that the closed beta phase has just started, if you’re interested in Forsaken World, visit the official website for more information and applying for the beta.

PWE is quickly becoming an important MMO publisher, titles like Perfect World,  Heroes of Three KingdomsJade DynastyEther Saga Online or Battle of the Immortals already have tons of players. Now, Forsaken World is already in closed beta phase, getting closer to final release.

DC Universe Online was set to launch in November 2010, though it wont until early 2011, as you all probably know. That was a bad punch to all fans awaiting for the online version of DC Universe that, somehow, SOE wants to compensate releasing new videos and lots of screenshots, clearly trying to keep the hype flame burning.

What I would like, otherwise, is having more information about the game itself, like game mechanics, superpowers available, combat system… and so on. Is there going to be some kind of player housing? Would be cool to have your own base, like Batman. Will players do crafting? Would be awesome to craft your own vehicle.

Those questions are some of the main ones, in my opinion, but till we all get our hands on the final release of the game, we’ll have to keep watching the new batch of screenshots released, while we still wonder how does it feel to play a superhero, or a villain.

Kitsu Saga is a MMORPG (massively multiplayer role playing game) brought to you and published by Aeria Games. The game features a blend of anime inspired graphics, point and click combat, PvP Elements, and an expansive pet system.  The character creation is a little more in depth for the average free-to-play MMORPG, but still basic.

From the character creation screen you can choose between two different factions,  Order of the Iron Claw and the Flamewind Society.  After your decision, you’ll be taken to decide on your appearance. At this screen, you choose between a number of varying appearance factors; your gender,  your physical build, hair, face, hair color, skin color, iris color, and finally…your growth.

The galaxy cannot be conquered through the Dark side alone. It cannot be molded and formed to the will of the Empire through the exclusive use of sheer force. The need arises for a more subtle approach to politics and warfare, and this is where the Agent comes in. Bioware will allow players from all corners of the world to assume roles in what has come to be one of the most legendary sagas of our time. Sure, Jedi Knights and Sith Warriors make for formidable opponents, but how can you stand a chance against an employer of stealth and other unconventional tactics? The Empire has long utilized the unique skill set of the Imperial Agent, both for close-quarters encounters and long-range reconnaissance. In Star Wars, the Imperial Agent can play judge, jury, and executioner …if you so desire.
