Wizard101 is a game from KingsIsle that by all appearances would encourage many adult gamers to look the other direction.  Its cartoon-like appearance masks a game with surprising depth however, and with a moment’s glance, the dynamics of the game become apparent.  The card-based battle system, as well as the character customization, are just some of the aspects that help separate this MMO from so many others in such a saturated market.  These parts of the game offer complex and varied experiences that are not often found in other games of the genre.

Today, in Other Worlds, we bring you a nice pic taken by Delinor, our regular Age of Conan screenshots provider. As you can see she was climbing high, looking for what? Often, we just try to get to what it seems to be an unreachable place, but let Delinor just explain herself.

“Delinor climbed her way to the rooftops, away of the rustle on the streets of Old Tarantia, the sounds of merchants, guards on their rounds and citizens on their errands quickly fading away as she raised nimbly. Sneaking, she reached the edge and sat dangling her feet loosely on the air as she contemplated the docks below and the Commons district across the river, its buildings piling up from the river shore and along the hillside, right below the Noble District, clearly separated by high towering walls, everything white except for one building, a single tower made of iron, black and menacing like a shadow of an ominous future”

Thanks Delinor for this wonderful screenshot, keep sending more.

If you have nice pics, taken in your favorite MMOs, why don’t you share them with everyone? Send your screenshots to hecteron@gmail.com, we’ll have a close look at them and if we like what we see, we’ll publish them here, on Other Worlds.

CCP has just announced that they’re going to release a new boxed retail edition for EVE Online. The name is Commissioned Officer Edition and is coming this fall, mainly focused on new players. The updated package of the game includes an exclusive in-game item, the Cerebral Accelerator, a military-grade implant increasing the pilot’s skill development, though this boost only lasts for the first 30 days of the pilot’s life. Sorry, EVE vets.

If you buy this new boxed retail version of EVE Online, you’ll get a CD key for starting a new account, including the classic 30 days paid game subscription time and an EVE poster with hints and tips. You’ll be able to convert a free trial or buddy program into a full account, accessing all features granted to all EVE subscribers. Remember though, the exclusive in-game item, the Cerebral Accelerator, will be given to the first character created on the account only.

CCP has partnered with Atari for this releasing in North America, promising this will be the finest EVE Online edition ever. You can start pre-ordering in several game retailers, this edition won’t be available for digital download.

Usually, when a game company goes under and the products in development aren’t picked up right away, that’s all there is to it.  Players looking forward to that title now have to move on, because the product will never see the light of day.  Heatwave Interactive decided to buck that trend and acquired Perpetual’s Gods & Heroes about a year ago.  Since then, they’ve been hush hush on what their plans were for the IP.  This GDC Online in Austin, they decided to open the curtain and give us a glimpse of their plans for the title.

There were a lot of panels and lectures to attend at GDC Online 2010, but the most interesting one I attended came from J. Todd Coleman and Josef Hall, creators of both Shadowbane and Wizard101.  In this lecture, the two men walked us through the process they took in both games and showcased the different paths they took, one which ended in failure and the other ending in success.  They broke each game up into stages and really showed off how with Shadowbane, they really didn’t have a good process or foundation.  They took the opposite approach with Wizard101 and have achieved great success with this niche game.  There were similarities, of course, but the whole of the lecture was about how the two games differed in their development stages.

From today October 12, all Everquest 2 players can get into the game and download the Update 58 content. Named as Arcanum Revealed it brings many updates, features, new zones and more, getting EQ2 to be a more complete game. Some of the new features are interesting,  like the new Mount Appearance Window, that lets you use a particular mount and show a different one. Pure aesthetics, but cool.

More info coming from SOE about DC Universe Online. This time, the character create video shows a brief presentation of the features you can access to, when creating your DCUO character. The video doesn’t take us in deep to character creation, but shows a great richness in shapes, appeals, suits and styles. By what we’ve seen in it, when we finally put our hands in the game, we’ll have the opportunity of making an unique character. One could even say that you’ll recognize other heroes by their look, not needing their names above their heads.

Even if you want to be some kind of copycat, emulating your DC heroes look, or if you prefer to be original and design your own appeal, looks like you’ll be able to to do it. I confess I can’t wait to create my character.

This is the new video for DCUO and if you want more, follow us in the MMOCrunch Youtube Channel.

Digital Reality and Twisted Tribe have decided to postpone the closed beta phase for Nadirim one more week. This way, the devs will have an extra week before the closed beta  launches. Looks like they need more time to polish some details and don’t want to launch Nadirim’s first beta phase before is truly ready.

“A note dropped in the GDN Newsroom today from Digital Reality and Twisted Tribe. It seems that instead of rushing an almost-finished product to market they have decided to postpone the launch of the  Nadirim closed beta for one week, until October 19, 2010.”

“It’s always good to see a game get delayed when it’s for quality reasons. After all, we all want the best games possible, right?”

As a player, I think it’s better to wait than having an unfinished product in your hands. This time we’re only talking of a beta phase so, seeing the devs delaying it is surprising. Though Nadirim fans will have to wait a bit more, this could be for good.

For countless hours, MMO explorer players come and go all over the land. In their travels, they find many amazing things and from time to time they can’t resist the impulse of making a screenshot. Sometimes, those pics serve as a record of the places they have visited, like this one taken in Lord of the Rings Online by Socky. He tells us:

“Hi, this is a screenshot of my character Arenmir, from lord of the ring’s online. He’s stood in deep part of Moria, in a dwarf encampment.”

I bet you were in The Waterworks, Socky. Thanks for the nice pic.

If you like to make screenshots, why don’t you send your favorites to hecteron@gmail.com? In Other Worlds we like to see them all and publish them.
