The Incursion is here. A new expansion for EVE Online, the sci-fi space MMO that takes you to the stars, launched today. All fans must be very excited about it, as with this new expansion, a lot of new things and changes come to the game.

Incursion 1.0.0 is the first of a multi-part release. It includes a long list of changes and improvements, prioritized and added with the help of the Council of Stellar Management (a group of EVE players, elected by the player community of the game to interact with CCP on behalf of it, since 2008) Some of the new stuff all players will see, are the addition of over 80 new storyline missions, the Noctis salvaging ship, rebalanced rockets and Tech 2 ammunition. As in past patches, the UI of the game is getting some love, based on player feedback. If you want the full notes, you can read it all in the official patch notes.

To inform about Incursion, CCP has recently launched a new feature site, stating that will be updated frequently throughout the next two months with art assets, interview videos and more information regarding the expansion.

Incursion 1.0.1 will launch next December 14th and will bring the removal of “learning skills” and a new holiday gift for EVE players with it. Incursion 1.0.2 will be available in January 2011, including the new realistic character creator system, based on CCP’s avatar technology, a precursor of the Incarna release. EVEGate will be hugely upgraded, adding integrated forums and The Planetary Interaction system feature will be significantly improved as well, based on player feedback.

Next week, Sansha’s Nation will invade the EVE universe, bringing chaos. All pilots should stand side by side and fight back the new Revenant supercarriers and victors against the incursions, will earn great rewards.

Shocking, thrilling, awesome, impressive… simply EVE Online.

As November comes to an end,  another Age of Conan monthly development update is published.  And this month it brings surprises that hadn’t been released yet. It seems more and more obvious that they’re making an effort to try and introduce something for every gaming style, we’ve heard about the 12player mini game, the social content, the Guardian class revamp and the introducing of the Dreamworld engine, but what hadn’t we heard of yet?

Turbine has announced the release of a new content update for its game Lord of the Rings Online, the November Update. This will bring more free content to the game, as well of a wide range of improvements and additions, like quests and more:

  • More Free Content! Players can now play the epic story in Moria, Lothlórien and Mirkwood all the way to level 65.
  • Improved Skills & Traits for the Lore-master & Rune-keeper.
  • Updated Elf & Dwarf starter regions.
  • Updates to the Crafting System and Vault UI.
  • A completely new Yule Festival set in Winter-home that will go live in December.

Turbine keeps enforcing its bet on the free-to-play market. They had a solid game in LOTRO and now they have the big community they wanted. Looks like the item shop is working decently and lots of new players have come, attracted by the F2P “luring” song. As long as we have decent games, if the free-to-play method keeps the MMO world alive and kicking, I believe all fans should be happy. LOTRO shows signs of being healthy and this new free content update proves it.

You can check the full notes for this new update on the official website or just download the patch and check the new content directly into the game. Anyway, enjoy and be happy while gaming.

Fast on the heels of the Plane of Air reveal, Trion sends us another juicy content update. I’m getting the sense that Rift: Planes of Telara is set to be a thoroughly lore-riffic title, and I’m all the more giddy for it. Hit ‘continued…’ to read up on the story and flip through some screenshots.

Dateline AzerothIt is done. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 was the day everything changed. Patch 4.0.3a, appropriately named ‘The Shattering’, marks the biggest change ever to Azeroth’s landscape. Nearly every zone in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdom reflects new construction and significant transformation borne of destruction of a truly cataclysmic nature. Not only did it radically change the geography and topography of Azeroth, it changed the face of questing all over the planet. Nearly every quest players will encounter from this point forward is a previous quest that has been tweaked or is one of the hundreds of new quests added. Numerous quests, many of which have been part of players’ journeys since the days of Vanilla WoW, are just plain gone.

Given the staggering changes to the world and its major players, and the rejuvenation of tensions between the Horde and Alliance, it’s obvious Blizzard went to great lengths to prepare for the third World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. More and more, it’s clear that the theme of the forthcoming expansion is “new beginnings.” In addition to the starting areas being introduced for Worgen and Goblins when Cataclysm is released on December 7, many starting zones for existing races have been retooled or totally revamped. The Draenei and Blood Elf starting zones remain essentially the same, but the starting areas for Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Orc, Tauren and Undead each have changes in either quests, scenery, lore, or all of the above.

Welcome to another chapter of MMOries of a Gamer. This week’s game is Age of Conan, a major MMO that had a rocky start, back in May 2008. By then, I was playing Lotro, but couldn’t help but try the digital version of Hyboria, as I always liked Conan’s comics and novels.

This week I’ll take a different approach than in past columns; I want to write a bit about AoC, instead of telling you a story. Come along, after the jump, and read some “mmories”.
