Levi's 2 Plat: Give Me Three Realms I’m tired of playing two realm MMORPGs. Some don’t have more than one realm, though that’s usually because the game was made with zero PvP in mind so it’s somewhat understandable, if still disappointing. Now I’m perfectly willing to admit, that I focus so much on having more than two realms because my first MMORPG had three realms and since then,  everything has seemed weak and shallow in comparison. Nevertheless, I still think there is a strong case to be made for a three realm system, for the sake of PvP, immersion/ depth and overall endurance in an MMORPG.

Quest Online has made the move, finally. Alganon players will have a new and important feature to enjoy, PvP. I know some of you really hate to fight other players, but I’m sure you all admit PvP is so important on every major game. Why? Cause it helps giving the MMO gaming experience a sense of being an “alive” game.

PvP players use to be a very active and dynamic community, usually loyal and constant. The thrill of combat, your heart going wild, the feeling of victory and defeat, the glory of the battlefield… Quest Online didn’t want to leave everything PvP has to offer to Alganon players. They are planning to add this new feature in three parts, as stated on the press release:

“Since taking the reigns at QOL, PvP has been one of the most requested and anticipated features for Alganon.” said Derek Smart, President of Quest Online, LLC. “However due to the original design of the game, coupled with a host of other tasks in the 2010 roadmap that we were working on, we had to put PvP on the back burner. In fact, the PvP feature in Alganon is so huge, that we found it impractical to implement it all at once. For that reason, it was planned as a three phase release, of which Phase 1 (Dueling & Open World PvP) rolls out this week with Phase II (Towers & Keep) scheduled to be released before the end of the year; followed by Phase III (Battlegrounds) in 2011.”

Congratulations to all Alganon players, Dueling and Open World PvP are now live and, soon, you all will enjoy the other two phases coming. More information about it, on the Alganon website.

Ravenwood Roundup HeaderBefore you download the Wizard101 client to your computer, you may wonder how much free content is readily available. Another important feature to MMO players relying on free content is, “How high can I level?” The first few columns in “Ravenwood Roundup” will address these questions, and updates will be provided as new free content is released.

The Commons: The Commons is a hub for several non-combat areas of Wizard101 including Golem Court, the Library, the Pet Pavilion, Ravenwood and the Fairgrounds. In October, all Ravenwood students encounter Jack Hallow, who offers various quests with a Halloween theme. Not all quests can be completed in the F2P (free-to-play) area, but some can.

Some time has passed since I left Lord of the Rings Online, but it was a game I really enjoyed. Despite I’m a huge fan of Tolkien and everything related to Middle Earth, I believe Lotro is a very good game, with many interesting features, like the achievement system giving you traits to customize you character, beyond itemization.

Follow me, after the jump, and read my MMOries about the virtual online version of Tolkien’s grand creation.

Here we come again with more media stuff for DC Universe Online. More and more screenshots keep coming, giving us a sneak-peak of this upcoming superhero-themed MMO, set to launch next Q1 2011. Be patient, that date is so close, an here on MMOCrunch, we think the wait is worth, as DCUO appears to be a very good game.

First Planet Company,  has announced  another remarkable in-game real money investment record on Planet Calypso MMO.

Some of you would remember, back in 2004, “Treasure Island” was bought for $26,500 USD (10 ped=1 USD in Planet Calypso currency) by David “Deathfier”. In 2005, Jon “NEVERDIE” Jacobs bought an Asteroid Space Resort with a total cost of $100.000 USD. Last year, Erik “Buzz Lightyear” Novak purchased Crystal Palace, a popular hunting destination orbiting around Planet Calypso, for $330.000 USD. Sounds astounding, right? In fact it is.

Now, the property purchased by Jon Jacobs in 2005, known as Club NEVERDIE, “has been broken up into smaller portions and sold off to new investors.  The total purchase price for the parcels was $635,000.00 USD giving its original owner a stunning ROI of 535% in just five years”, as stated on the press release.

Have you ever thought of becoming a virtual world investor? Do you see the MMO “life” as a pure method of entertainment or are you willing to spend your free time, investing in virtual goods?

This is such an interesting theme, we would like to discuss with you all, MMOCrunch readers. Leave your comments.

When was the last time you actually did laugh out loud while gaming? And when was the last time you got angry? We all play to have fun, but in many occasions the game becomes something more, providing many good moments but also frustration and even stress. Are we really aware when a game becomes an obligation? It usually is a slow process of which we won’t be aware until it has affected us so much that we need to take a break from the game, or even makes us quit for good, sometimes not to come back again despite having friends there.

Let’s have a look at a different approach to the gaming world of MMOs, and to the world of FunComs Age of Conan in particular.
