Icarus Studios is making a huge effort to improve Fallen Earth, its post-apocalyptic MMORPG, featuring a human post-nuclear civilization. This game is cool, it has one of the best crafting systems in the market and is far away from the conventional and average MMO. Simply different, you must try it if you’re looking to flee from orcs, elves and pixies.

And here it comes what many of you, avid gamers, were waiting for: the Faxion Online Closed Beta registration has just started. From now, everyone interested can go to the Faxion Online website and register for a chance of getting into the closed beta test, to begin in Q1 2011.

This game, is a competitive fully-featured MMORPG, allowing players to side with the armies of both Heaven and Hell, battling for domination of the seven deadly sins. It’s PvP focused, featuring a unique territory control system, offering achievement and glory, with a funny sense of humor.

"We already know the game is funny, exciting and addictive, however, at
this stage of the game's development, we need to elicit the help of
some rigorous beta testers to offer their opinions and feedback to
help us fine tune the game and make it as great as it can be," said
Frank Lucero, Studio Head at UTV True Games. "By signing up early,
these testers will ensure themselves a spot when we open the flood
gates in Q1."

The game was present on this year’s GDC Online and our Head Editor, Staci, was there to meet the Faxion Online team. She had the opportunity of playing the game, chat with some representatives and write a good and informative article about it. If you didn’t read it yet, go for it and don’t miss it.

Faxion looks cool and could be an alternative to all of those PvP loving players, looking to fight others adding a “twist” to the genre.

Gala-net and gPotato.com are close to launch the last update for its free-to-play MMO, Allods Online. The update is called Patch 1.1.04 Fury of War and will bring a lot of content, adding things and fixing others. It looks good for the game, as the devs try to improve the game not only bringing new features but fixing bugs and expanding customization options. In addition to all this effort, Allods will be holding a Winter Festival with snowmen, Santa outfits, candy canes and snowballs, the typical MMO Christmas time celebrations that we all love, well, at least I do.

If anyone had any doubts whether World of Warcraft reached its peak here’s another record in the game’s resume: the third World of Warcraft expansion from Blizzard Entertainment Cataclysm” sold more than 3.3 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release thus making it the fastest selling PC game of all time, topping the previous record of more than 2.8 million copies sold in 24 hours set in November 2008 by Blizzard’s second World of Warcraft Expansion Wrath of the Lich King.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm was released concurrently in the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand on December 7 and in Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau on December 9 as more than 10,000 stores throughout the world opened their doors at midnight and about 15,000 players attended official launch events hosted by Blizzard and key retail partners in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, and the region of Taiwan.

Last week Michael Pachter, an industry expert, was quoted in an interview to Eurogamer “Nothing will topple World of Warcraft for another 20 years” and with more than 12 million subscribers prior to the launch of Cataclysm it seems the game will only keep on growing and improving and according to Blizzard’s CEO and co-founder, Mike Morhaime, the Cataclysm is the game’s best expansion so far:

“We had to bring Azeroth to the brink of destruction in Cataclysm, but the result was our best expansion yet”

Dateline AzerothWelcome to Cataclysm and welcome to new beginnings! While there is plenty of content for characters pressing the level cap of 85, the new races introduced December 7 when Cataclysm was released changed the geography of World of Warcraft almost as much as Deathwing. Both the Goblin and the Worgen races race came with an extensive starting zone to guide them from level one through the mid-teens. Both starting zones paint a vivid, albeit brief, history of the race from the point-of-view of your new character. There’s plenty of lore and racial culture to be explored, and neither zone is to be missed.

WARNING: While I tried to keep this as spoiler free as possible, there will be a few vague references to starting zone events contained in the descriptions to follow. If you’re trying to stay completely spoiler free, you might be better off skipping the rest.

Fair Game Header 02

“I just don’t see the attraction.”

“You’ll get addicted!”

“How can you waste your time like that?”

“Wait, are you addicted?”

“You spent money on that?  But it isn’t real!”

“You are so addicted!”

Sound familiar? The well intentioned yet completely off-the-mark commentary we often hear from friends or family members who just don’t understand our love of online gaming? Yeah, same here.

Convinced that you’ll end up a desiccated husk, living in your own filth and helplessly strung-out on pixels and cheese-doodles, they sigh, they wheedle, they cajole and sometimes even threaten you to get you to give up the hobby you love. And it’s not difficult to figure out why. We’ve all seen the sensational news stories about people who became so consumed by a particular game that they lost perspective, (or worse) lost their jobs, let their kids starve or simply forgot to live themselves. But as tragic as those stories are, they don’t reflect the reality of most gamers.

But what can we do about it?  I have a few ideas…
