Hyrkanian Insight Header

Oh, hello there. Here you are, yet another week; welcome once more to the world of Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer (formerly Hyborian Adventures.) That’s what expansions do to game names. This week I would like to introduce you to Delinor, ex-“Lord” of a guild in AoC. No, don’t be mistaken, she is not a man; little Deli is a girl, a bird, a woman, a lass. Call her what you want, she definitely is not male. So why on earth do the titles of the different guild government types not change when gender does? It doesn’t make sense at all. Particularly when the tips and tutorial of the game clearly specify that ranks can be customized when, in fact, they can’t be.  But we’ll come back to this point later.

Let’s follow Deli in her ordeal through various events where the words that gave this article its title kept springing to mind…

Ravenwood Roundup HeaderEach Wizard101 account (that means F2P or member) allows for six characters. What does this mean to F2P (free-to-play) account holders? Every account holder can explore the free content through the eyes of each of the seven primary schools of magic at Ravenwood. How so, you may ask? There is no fee to delete a character and/or create a new one, at any time, over and over.*

Each of the seven primary schools of magic provides suprisingly different content. Each school has a different professor, classroom, benefits and drawbacks. Students are sent on unique quests to earn spells from their primary school that aren’t available through the use of training points, and therefore are exclusive to that school. There’s not much that can be said without spoiling game content, but I can say that students of the Life School visit Golem Tower for a different reason than students of the Ice School! Future columns will discuss each school in detail.

These are the different “trade-skills” you can choose on this game, having 14 different ones to fill all your needings, regarding crafting and other professions. You’ll be able to learn fishing, read the future through astrology, gain access to hidden quests or craft your own weapons and armor.

Picture 1 of 4

Today is the day. Digital reality and Twisted Tribe launched the closed beta phase for their free-to-play browser-based MMO Nadirim. As this wasn’t enough, yesterday a new class was announced: the Ruffian, coming to join the other classes presented a while ago and giving players another option on the role to take, once into the game.

The Nadirim approach to the “rogue-like” class is to make Ruffians some kind of shady heroes, instead of being villains, eager for fortune. They are not afraid of doing the dirt job and always keep a strong free will attitude, relying on their Agility and Willpower, the attributes that better characterize this class. Tricksters, using the shadow ways of the Assassins, they know they can succeed where virtue and sheer power fail; this is the perfect class for all those shadowy players.

Fancy striking from the shadows? Have a look at the Ruffian class on the official website for both male and female ruffians. If you don’t like this class, remember you can choose from other four. What I recommend is that you try all of them, help the devs make a better game during the beta and then, with a good knowledge of the game, go for the class that better suits you. After that, prepare yourself, Nadirim has no nights… so you won’t sleep; and don’t worry if you’re a Ruffian, the night brings darkness but the day projects shadows.  For those interested in the Nadirim closed beta, please visit their beta signup page here.

It had been a while since we knew anything new about Jumpgate Evolution, and it is with surprise that we bring you this piece of information. Codemasters has presented a formal complaint in the federal court of San Francisco against NetDevil and Gazillion regarding the status of development of the game. Little they have revealed, simply announcing that they have initiated legal actions, as stated previously, and that in the course of the procedure other documents may reveal the position of the other parties.

Though this would not be the first time companies start this sort of actions, it is always saddening for the gaming community who is awaiting the release of a new game; but after all money is what rules and huge investments like the one Codemasters has done are bound to have repercussions if things do not go smoothly. What remains to be known is the position and version of the other two parties from we know nothing at the moment.
