T3 Entertainment announced today that open beta for Hellgate would begin in NA and EU on June 30th.  The open beta will also feature two new game modes, a PvP dual area and the zombie-infested Cow Room.

The Dual Area is your general run of the mill PvP combat area and features four locations, Abandoned Passage, Black Wall Way, Forgotten Grave, and Passage of Hallucination. Players on opposing teams must kill each other in death match, where the winning team will received PvP points, which can be used to purchase accessories, pets and other items in-game.

The Cow Room, which doesn’t include any actual cows and the name is probably borrowed from the Diablo series, is an area that is infested by zombies.  For players to enter the Cow Room, they must first complete a special recipe to create a key. Players that enter and are able to survive will have a chance to gain the newest and rarest Hellgate item drops.

To celebrate its move into open beta, four Hellgate events  have also been planned.  To find out more information or to signup to the Hellgate open beta, head over to the official site.

Below we have a preview of the Cow Room for your viewing pleasure.

The first major content update for Black Prophecy is on its way with Episode 1: Inferno in Tulima and will be released sometime in July.

Episode 1 introduces a new region known as Enzo’s Enigmatic Emporium of Exotic Elegance, which will be open to players at levels 15 and higher and will act as the hub for new missions. It will also used by dubious dealers as a marketplace for goods of all sorts.

New “bound sectors” are also introduced where players must complete prior sectors before continuing to the next. Some passages will be guarded by particularly strong opponents that can only be defeated by a group of pilots in order to progress.

The communication system is also being re-worked and will be based on standard instant messenger systems. Players can recognize their friends by their avatar and talk to them in a separate window. The new in-game e-mail system also permits sending items by cash on delivery to other players.

Other new features include:

  • New jobs
  • New story missions
  • New dynamic missions
  • New open world sectors
  • Changes to the reward system in PvP
  • New weapon type
  • New offensive and defensive special skills that make battles even more exciting

Currently the update is only for EU player as the NA version is still in open beta.  For more information head over to the Black Prophecy website.

The latest update to Eve OnlineIncarna, went live yesterday introducing a new micro-transaction store, called the Noble Exchange, where players could buy vanity items for their characters.  Eve Online players expressed their concern prior to the release of the update to CCP about whether items that effect gameplay would eventually be introduced.  CCP replied stating they would not and would be strictly cosmetic items.

A day after the release of Incarna an internal newsletter from CCP was leaked that showed more items being added to the Noble Exchange which do effect gameplay.  “Not all virtual purchases [in EVE Online] will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright.” The leaked document also mentioned the possibility of buying faction standings.

What’s more is that the items are extremely expensive.

The Noble Exchange uses a new currency, different from ISK, called Aurum.  Aurum can only be obtained by converting PLEX, which has a ratio of 1 PLEX to 3500 Aurum.  PLEX can be obtained in two ways, it can be either purchased for $19.99 in real money or can purchased using ISK at the cost of about 400 million.

Got that…no, here’s a simple conversion chart.

1 PLEX = 400 Million ISK or $19.99 (real money)
1 PLEX = 3500 Aurum

The items in the leaked internal newsletter are listed below, displaying their Aurum costs, which is then converted into PLEX, dollars and ISK.

Exchange Rate: 3500 AUR = 1 PLEX = $17.50 = 400 mil isk at Jita (New Eden main trade hub).

  • Looking Glass Ocular implant – 12k AUR -> 3.5 PLEX -> $61.25 ->1.4 Bil ISK
  • Men’s ‘Sterling’ Dress Shirt – 3.6k AUR -> 0.97 PLEX -> $16.97 -> 388 Mil ISK
  • Women’s ‘Sterling’ Dress Blouse – 3.2K AUR -> .91 PLEX -> $16.00 -> 364 Mil ISK
  • Men’s ‘Comando’ Pants – 3k AUR -> .85 PLEX -> $15 -> 340 Mil ISK
  • Women “Impress” Skirt – 3.6k AUR -> 0.97 PLEX -> $16.97 -> 388 Mil ISK
  • Women’s ‘Sterling’ Dress Blouse – 4.4k AUR -> 1.25 PLEX -> $22.00 -> 504 Mil ISK
  • Men’s ‘Precision’ Boots – 1k AUR -> 0.28 PLEX -> $5.00 -> 112 Mil ISK
  • Women’s ‘Greave’ Knee-Boots – 2.4K AUR -> 0.68 PLEX -> $12.00 -> 272 Mil ISK

(the above conversions were from EveNews24 who used a lower $17.50 conversion rate for PLEX)

The leaked document, which dates from May 2011, has not yet been confirmed as authentic and no reply from CCP has been given.  We’ll keep you updated.

Update: The newsletter has been confirmed to be real.

In four short days, on June 27th, Anarchy Online will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary and being the worlds longest running sci-fi MMORPG.  The celebration will take place over three days, both in-game and out, and will be the Anarchy event of the decade.

Development started on Anarchy Online as early as 1995, in an age when the Internet had not even become mainstream. The initial design document even questioned whether the Internet had a future, and the stated the goal was to obtain at least 2500 players. Millions of gamers later, Funcom is ready to throw down the biggest party on Rubi-Ka to date.

“When Anarchy Online launched ten years ago nobody would have predicted where it would go, and that we would even see this day are all thanks to the dedication of our players and our community”, says Colin Cragg, Game Director on Anarchy Online. “I have so many fond memories from the years with Anarchy Online, and there are so many people to thank. The span of time and the way our world has touched the lives of so many is something we will always cherish. The fact that the kids of couples who met in AO are now playing our game says it all. I feel incredibly grateful to have been a part of Anarchy Online, and can’t wait to see what the future holds in store for us all.”

To help players celebrate the milestone, Funcom is adding new content for the festivities. Ranging from an all new birthday raid to new vehicles, clothes, gear, action figures and pets, players will have tons of new content to play around with. Players who choose to re-subscribe during the festivities will receive a special “Heckler of Celebration” social pet, as well as other benefits. The Heckler is known as one of the most notorious monsters in Anarchy Online, and it comes complete with a rocky personality and a 10th anniversary Birthday Hat.

Funcom is inviting all current and old players back to Rubi-Ka to help celebrate  this major achievement.   The party begins this Friday, and a complete list of times can be found on the official site.

Last week I posted an article about a mysterious new website called Pottermore, which many people, including myself, believed would be the name of the new Harry Potter MMORPG. Today J.K.Rowling made the official announcement via YouTube this morning as to what Pottermore really was and unfortunately it is not a MMORPG.

Pottermore will be an online interactive reading experience where readers will be able to read along with the current books, read previously unpublished information about the world of Harry Potter and interact and contribute to the it.  What that means and entails has not yet been announced, but since it isn’t a MMO game we won’t be covering it, so you’ll need to head over to the official Pottermore website for the latest info.

The latest expansion for Fiesta Online is expanding the playable classes, adding the new Joker class into the mix.  Similar to assassins, the Joker class can deal a large amount of damage in a short period of time and use their speed and agility to get away before the opponent has a chance to counter.

The Joker’s weapon of choice is either Claws or Dual Swords and are the only class to use the unique Soul system.  The Soul system allows players of the Joker class to obtain soils, which can be unleased in powerful attacks.

Strengths

  • Fastest damage dealing class
  • Poison and DoT damage
  • Only class with the specialized “Soul” system which allows the Joker to collect souls and use them to deal more damage

Weaknesses

  • Ranged damage
  • Low defense

If your a fan of high DPS classes, then the Joker class is definitely for you.
