It seems that cheating and hacking in MapleStory is becoming more of a problem lately, so yesterday Nexon made an announcement to the community responding to the issue.

Despite many efforts to permanently eliminate hacks and exploits, we have not achieved a level of success we are happy with, or that you should be happy with.

They announce that new tools and updates to the game would be on the horizon in an attempt to stop players from using hacks or exploits within the game.

  • Developing more advanced hack prevention and detection tools
  • Updating the game to strengthen its defense against hacking

While all online games seem to have cheaters, it’s good to see that Nexon is acknowledging the issue and taking steps to stop it.  There’s nothing worse then your favorite MMO game or any game being destroyed by cheaters.  I can remember when Diablo 2 become flooded with cheaters back in the day and it was the reason I stopped playing it.

Patch 4.2 is almost here and today Blizzard showed off two new PvP mounts that can be obtained through Rated Battlegrounds.  The new World of Warcraft mounts can be obtained by winning at least 75 Rated Battlegrounds and an additional 2 mounts can be given to alt characters by winning 150 and 300 matches.  The two available mounts are the Vicious War Wolf for the Horde and the Vicious War Steed for Alliance players,  which are account-bound.

The mounts are obtained instantly once the a player reached the corresponding win number, so players don’t have to wait until the end of the season.  The win total also doesn’t reset at the end of each season, so players don’t have to worry about having to start over.

Checkout some images of the two Rated Battleground mounts below.

Less then one month ago I proclaimed the pay-to-play business model was dead, since then more high profile MMO games have jumped ship and turned to the free-to-play model, two in the last 24 hrs.  Below you can see that LEGO Universe will be moving to f2p this August and Fallen Earth announced it was going f2p last week.

Now City of Heroes, which will be renamed City of Heroes Freedom, will also be moving to f2p later this year, however will retain a subscription option.  COH will also no longer require a purchase and will be free to download from the site.

Players currently with subscriptions, and those that pick the subscription option later, will become VIP members and will receive 400 Paragon Points per month starting on their first billing cycle after July 1, 2011.  These points can then be used to purchase items from the in-game Paragon Market. VIP members will also have full access to all areas of the game, items and receive content updates and expansions for free.

City of Heroes Freedom will launch with Issue 21: Convergence, which adds the First Ward co-op zone, gripped in mystical conflict, as well as the Time Manipulation Power Set, the IDF and Defense Costume Sets, and the Underground Incarnate Trial.

For more details, check out the official COH website.

The first season of League of Legends Championship tournament is over and team FnaticMSI came out victorious, winning the grade prize of $100,000.   In a three day event at Dreamhack 2011, eight League of Legends teams had made it to the championships and would be battling it out for the massive cash prize.

The two finalist teams, aAa and FnaticMSI, had met multiple times throughout the tournament, but it would be team FnaticMSI that came out on top in the finals.

On day 1 in the second round of qualifying matches was the first encounter between these two teams with team aAa coming out victorious in the first game. On day 3 they met again in the Upper Bracket Finals, and this time FnaticMSI was prepared dominating in game 1, then finishing off team aAa in game two.

However team aAa battled back and made it to the finals to meet team FnaticMSI for the third time. Team aAa took the first game winning 20 – 7, but lost their momentum and tower in game two, making team FnaticMSI the first ever League of Legends Championship team and of course winning the $100k.

The video for the final match is available on own3D.tv, however it’s currently not working so you can check out the final match below on Youtube.

It seems that every week we are making another announcement of a P2P MMO switching over the Free 2 Play and this week it’s LEGO Universe.  Starting in August, LEGO Universe will offer players two choices when signing up, free and premium membership.  Free players will have an unlimited amount of time to play, however have restrictions as to where they can go and what they can do.

LEGO Universe will still gain revenue from its subscribers as there is no plan currently to add an item store, however that might change down the line.  The restrictions for free players will be limiting players to two adventure zones and one player property area for building their own virtual LEGO models.

Starting in August, new players will not need to purchase the LEGO Universe DVD and the game will be available on the site for free to download.
