Everyone knows that World of Warcraft is an addicting game. Nobody knows this better than Trevor Miller and his parents, James and Cindy – unfortunately for them, they learned this the hard way.

Seems that Trevor didn’t have money to pay for his account.  This WoW-starved gamer then decided to break into a cars and steal the owners credit cards to pay for the monthly subscription. A local detective from Trevor’s home of Buffalo Grove in Lake County, Illinois caught onto Trevor’s game once he noticed several fraudulent online orders and tracked them back to Trevor’s address.  Yes, this was a bad idea. How bad though, Trevor had no idea.

Authorities got a search warrant for the house and not only did they find the stolen credit cards, but also they cropped up the parent’s marijuana stash they were growing in the house. Busted. To read the source article on the WoW Player that got himself and his parents arrested, click here.

Former professional pitcher Curt Schilling and his team at 38 Studios are moving. With their first project in the works, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Schilling is taking his team from its Maynard, MA home to Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Apparently, not everyone is happy with the move. Developers Demiurge Studios expressed their concern in a strange open letter addressed to Schilling and company.

“I write to you today to address the announcement yesterday that you are moving your company away from Massachusetts to Rhode Island.” Begins the letter written by Chief Executive Officer at Demiurge William D. Reed.

Reed’s letter expressed his concern over Schilling moving the Studio from its MA base to Rhode Island. Reed goes on to express how much 38 Studios will be leaving behind if it leaves MA and more or less begs Schilling and his team to stay.

Reed ended the letter with this statement, perhaps making the letter a ploy to lure Curt and his team away from 38 Studios or possibly merge? “Curt, we love our home state of Massachusetts. In the end, if you really move your company down to Pawtucket, it will be a loss for the Boston game community. If anyone on the talented 38 Studios team wants to stay in Massachusetts, where we play major-league ball, they’re more than welcome to join the team at Demiurge Studios, the state’s soon-to-be largest independent game studio.”

The entire letter is an odd sentiment. MMOCrunch dug deeper into the Internets to try and find out what this weird little communication was all about. It seems that 38 Studios will be getting $75 million in loan guarantees by moving the studio to RI, but is obligated to generate some 450 jobs by the end of 2012 for this service.

The open letter to Schilling and company is definitely out of the norm in terms of usual business practices – perhaps its just a letter to express care and concern between friends, maybe it’s the first move in trying to get Schilling to reneg on his move and partner up with Demiurge? Fans will have to wait and see what the potential move brings and how 38 Studios reacts to the letter.

allods_strina_the_fierce

MMOCrunch.com was lucky enough to get the chance to chat with Allods Online development team and they provided some interesting insights into their popular free-to-play MMO. Let’s get right to it.

MMOCrunch: The big news with Allods Online is the recently released patch, Revelations of Gipat. Can you tell how the launch of the patch went? What are some of the bigger changes the team thinks are playing out nicely?

Allods Online: The launch was both an exciting and challenging one for us. The Allods Team has been working incredibly hard for the last two months to make sure the launch was as smooth as possible.

Patch 1.1.0 brought a ton of improvements, new features, and completely overhauled some mechanics that many of our players were used to in the previous version. One of the bigger changes was the removal of Fear of Death and the introduction of a new type of death penalty – the cursed item system. It’s no secret that some members of the Allods community were not pleased with this change, but we’ve been doing our best to keep players educated and informed about how the entire cursed item system works.

To date, Patch 1.1.0 is the biggest Allods Online patch, and in terms of new features, Patch 1.1.0 introduced a new zone called Gipat.  From ghostly beasts to a worm-faced army, the monsters in Gipat are incredibly awesome.

The patch also added new audio, new animations, significant UI changes, and a complete rebalancing of certain archetypes. The new mounts – The Xadaganian Steed and the Kanian Runner have also been huge hits.
